Glad to see such forums having discussion on one of the very important item of Vehicle Maintenance i.e. Engine Oil which needs regular change after specific interval.
Now in Pakistan there are good options available in Market to opt from best to mediocre like AMSOIL, VALVOLINE, MOBIL, CHEVRON Lubricants like Havoline & Kixx, Castrol then German brands like Liqui Moly, FUCHS and Japanese Imported ENEOS (Available only at ATTOCK Petrol Pumps), in past such options were not available.
It has been observed that mostly vehicle owners are unaware of Engine Oil importance and don?t know about required oil grading as per their OEM / Engine, Nowadays our automobile market is having considerable ratio of JDMs running on Pakistan roads which have different requirements like 0W20 for Hybrids TOYOTA PRIUS, 5W30 or 5W40 for gasoline.
Engine?s life, performance depends upon quality of oil as it not only to lubricate engine parts but also acts as a coolant for Engine. Good engine oil ensures longs life of engine with fuel efficiency and handles oil oxidation and sludge formation.
In reasonable price Kixx oils are good option, it?s a value for money. KIXX 5w30 SN/CF and KIXX 5W40 PAO SN/CF ACEA C3 are good options to opt having latest additives & grading which ensures more protection / cleanliness as compare to their locally blended contenders in the market.
Grading is most important to be taken care of as per OEM recommendations & Climate conditions, for Pakistan recommended grading is 5W30 or 5W40 SM or SN in reputable oil brand (fully synthetic is best).
One myth is that lots of people on different threads used to recommend Chevron?s Caltex Havoline brand over KIXX and condemning KIXX but they might be unaware of fact that Kixx is also a brand of CHEVRON & LG {Kixx is Engine Oil Brand of GS Caltex which was founded in 1967 as a 50/50 joint venture between Chevron and LG Group of South Korea}, KIXX is official lubricant supplier of several Korean vehicles manufacturers like Kia, Hyundai, Doosan etc. Further recommending 20W50 for engines like VVTI, IVTEC, DOHC etc which is incorrect.
Note: -
Mostly vehicle owners consider that only mileage is only factor to change oil but it?s not like that, there are 2 factors to consider for oil change whichever comes first, of course one is mileage (5k, 10k etc) or 6 months (Some oils have one year if mileage not achieved).
Oils of group 5 have 1year and above life if mileage is not achieved, there is another science of Oil Groups.
