You can attach any gearbox to it, all you need is a bell housing and a flywheel. What local machnists do is take the original auto (original)housing and cut the the trailing edge (kara) off it and weld it onto your desired gearboxes housing. For the flywheel normally you mechanics either have one made from scratch or simply get the auto one and have it welded up.
It all falls down to how good the machinist is , give him the engine, both housings and the gearbox and within two weeks he will give you the whole deal in a one piece with the clutch working.
The only thing which stops a man from doing it is the sudden lightness off the pocket and the agonizing pain having the process done one's way. It usually takes about a month to transplant a 1UZ into a Mid-Large SUV.
An electrician (good one) is crucial, not some "cheena mistri" who will remove every wire he doesn't know and bang up the whole wiring. Someone sophisticated enough to know the voltage and timing of the injector.
Lately i have seen a guy put one in a 90 Landy. I definitely know that you can imagine what i'm saying here.... whhoooop! there he goes!
I myself am leaning towards the 1UZ since turboing is such a pain in the behind. :S:S:P:P
