I have used many different roms and here are a few i recommend.
Sabsa prime: seemingly the best rom for htc desire hd out of many other roms i've tried. It has literally NO bug.
The next one is jellytime. I tried its R6 release. It had blutooth problem. But they have fixed it with the new release R8 i think.
You can also try out MIUI v5 2.0 which has best optionns ever!! but its style and UI is not the best. You can try MIUI v6 3.4.19. Which is awesome (but has terrible bugs)

Do note that sabsa prime is based on sense 4.1. And has ICS 4.0 of android.
Jellytime and MIUI are latest jellybean 4.2 releases. If you want jellybean then there is absolutely nothing better than MIUI v5 currently.

Cyannogenmod had some problem with my dhd. I deleted it after a little time.
Yes. Your versions are okay. But you'll need to root your phone.

You need to download Jellytime 4.2.2 R9, I think that's the latest one. which works fine.
