Beware of WAPDA meter readers

Guys i will like to share this intelligent approach by the meter readers in lahore defence to increase revenue and hide electricity theft losses and to rob us. i am certain its being done all over Pakistan.
At our house usually in winters we consume about 250 to 350 units monthly....however in this december when bill came i was shocked by looking at units consumed they were 750 units and bill was many times increased due to higher slab on 300 plus units..... at first 100 units charges are about 4 rupee per unit and then next 200 units charged at 5/unit and next units charged at 10 rupees per unit........i checked the meter for units and to my surprise that in 14 days after the reading was taken i had consumed 100 units by straight maths by adding my total units during month should not have been more than 250 units or make it 300 units......Then after asking other people i have come to know that what they do is they charge u less units for few months for example u consumed 300 units but they will send u bill for 200 units then next month again they will send u bill for 200 units whereas u have consumed 300 units ..in this way during 2 months u consume 600 units but you pay for 400 (meter reading will show more but as we get less bill we donot care).... Now when the third month comes meter reader apply this formula usual units consumed are 300 + your balance 200 units +advance few units about 50 ..... what happens now is that u pay for ur balance and adavance units at higher slab rate of 10/unit which other wise would have costed u 4 or 5 rupess per unit........while putting these advance units and balance unit meter reader make sure that when bill comes to you next month about 10 days later and you check ur meter it will show you atleast the same reading as mention on bill ........ first 100 u pay 4/units next 200 unit=5/unit next 300 unit=10/unit

Today for month of feburary i have received bill showing i consumed 613 units...meter reading date is 19 feburary and by looking at meter on 4 march i have seen that i have consumed 20 units in 14 days since meter reading( that cannot be true) .......i was certainly not drilling oil well last month (613 units)....in jan my units consumed were 200.....now when i go to wapda they say sir ur meter is showing reading that is more than on bill (as i explained previoulsy)...........
Thats so irritating i am now goin up this matter to higher authority but just wanted to share whats really happening .you check ur bills to and note reading on same day as is meter reader takes which is mentioned on bills

That is standard practice of meter readers and they are told to do this by LESCO management.

Well i went to there office today and i am assured that next month meter reader will notify me as he takes the reading .....i just went through the past years bill and you are right i was charged about 600each units for each month in june and july but in august i was sent bill of 3000 units ....Any ways my purpose was to share this info cause its quite tricky way of cheating

i including my friends are victim of lesco dha the biggest corruption ever by any department in pakistan is known as lesco defence.

There are sending bills in the form of corruption upto 100,000 rupees.
The interesting thing is they are very confident of what they are doing because punjab government is totally involved in this otherwise this massive corruption could not take place.

If i am the cm of punjab my priority will be customer satisfaction first.
unfortunately our cm don't care for punjabis ...this type of corruption is also known as legal corruption.

I alwayz ask next victim is you.....so be prepare friends .This government is on extreme now don't know what to do what not to do.

Agree with poster! This is a very common practice and I've been victim of it since long. Don't know if meter readers simply do predictive reading to avoid visit or else but this thing is definitely benefiting the thugs! Got bills fixed a couple of times and was assured of accurate reading but all in vain and the practice continues.

Well now i will record meter reading too (through cell cam) on new digital meters firts date comes then total units are shown ... so on every 19 which is usually the meter reading date i will make record for few months .......cause with ever rising electricity bill i cannot take this nonsense .......its only our silence which makes them brave and finally they become DHEET ....if we all go to them every month ....something will happen but if we sit at our homes thinking well we cannot do any thin it will only make them bolder ..........

We all have digital cameras in our phones or separatley. We can take picture of meter after every 5 days with date mentioned on picture.

This will be proof with us that we noted meter reading with time stamp.

Now this process need to go for 3-4 months so we have good record.

Then we need to go for courts and sue them for our life time bills or over bills.

I know courts are tough part, but we as group need to do it. I am sure if we 10-20 people do this, taking pictures and then gathering them up, will give us result after 1-2 years and hopefully in future they will get lesson.

I will check my meter for next 2-3 months.

good idea, but keep a current news paper with its date portion/name beside the face of the energy-meter & then take complete shot of it. meter reading taken this way is accepted by the wapda in relation to date which the news-paper establishes.

get a metal box made for the meter with a lock..whenever the wapda guy will come for meter readin..he'll ring ur door bell to ask u to open the box so u can have a a check on him every time

or it might give him an excuse just to put an estimated units....just to save all the hastle of giving the bell, waiting, then for someone to come. open. then he reads and checks another 1000 houses?

few wise people living infront of my ex home never bothered to check there meters. the reader never came and they were on estimated bills for 6 months. the were under billed by rupees 35 - 40 000 rupees

Bro i donot want to touch meter if some thing happens they will say i tempered with meter and send dictation bills..

i told solution in previous post mentioning date urself is not good they will say u have tempered with date best method is to get video recodring ...New digital meter installed at my house gives date time and then total reading so if u record for 2 mins through video cam (phone cam) it will solve the issue .....Make recording one day later than date which is mentioned on the bill as meter reading date .......i have already implemented this plan of action lets see

Well that's what they do they help others steal money and make up for line losses from us........ as i mentioned earlier last time with cheaper electricity rates than current rates i got highest bill of about 35000 rupees keeping current rates in mind if i allow same thing to continue it will be 50000....so i intend to fight for my right

I just got a bill of 18000 for Gas in February. Can you believe that? But thank God they changed it after my dad sent someone over and now we got a rectified bill of 500 something

Well got my bill for month of march total unit consumed during whole month 51 units compared to 750 last months :)....any ways i will keep on recording for next months so that meter reader cannot cheat me again

the other day in islamabad, meter guy was taking a picture of the meter reading, to show to clients incase someone complaints, i guess the problem is not that widespread

lol ever since i started making video recordings somehow meter is getting slower and slower i have not received bill but today i took reading and i am worried again cause according to it i have consumed only 22 units in 37 days .....though i am not using a/c but still its little bit too much on lower side lol......i hope my meter is working fine now i cannot go to Wapda either complaining my meter is now too slow

This is a very old practice, the best way as i have been doing for few years is to take snaps of your meters (gas or electricity) after every 10 days as you never know when the meter guy visited and checked the meter.

I believe coz my home in my village is empty for more than 2 years, but bill is still coming of more or less 15k each month. It means their are ghost or spirits in my home who consume electricity.
