Guys, im making this thread just to raise some awareness regarding night time driving on motorway. A few days ago I had to visit Lahore. On my way back, I was driving at 100-110km/h because my car was on petrol and it had knocking issue. Almost 50 to 100 meters before Sukheki rest area, there was a huge stone lying right in the middle lane!!!! it was almost twice the size of a football and must ve been 15-20 kg atleast and atleast 1 ft high. Due to the lights of rest area and some cars on the other lane, i was distracted for a fraction of a second and my vision was also blurred for a second so i couldnt see the stone. but when i saw it, i tried to steer away but there was not much distance so i could nt get myself clear of it and hit my front bumper's left corner and then the side wall of my tire into the stone. BOOM goes the tire
thankfully, the car stayed stable and well in control even after the tire burst and i was able to slow down slowly without any issue.
After stopping, the first thing i did was call 130 and informed motorway authorities to get that stone removed. then get my tire replaced. The tire that burst was a Yokohama C-drive, hardly 6 months old and with 26,000kms on it (half life). I really loved the grip of the tire and its pattern too but now its gone
Anyways, the point is that night time driving is not as safe as we think even on motorway. If i had driven over the stone, im sure the suspension would ve ripped out and i would ve hit the divider or even worse! Thank GOD it didnt happen.
Here are some pix of the tire and the bumper. the bumper had some damage at this spot already but not this much.
