hi PW.. its my first thread so plz ignore my mistakes actually this post is about my blackberry curve 9300(3g) upgraded to OS 6.. i just owned dis cell a few days back, and i am using telenor network. this is my first bb phone, i just shifted fm iphone to android and now to bb. the prob i facing is related to internet. I cant buy bb services cause i cannot afford it, and i have a wifi connection in my home so i can access internet easily. and i just loved the net surfing on my cell and it really attracted me. so now comes to the prob the prob is actually that my balance is deducting. 3days before i just load a 100rs card and had hardly used the half of it and remaining just got deducted. actually i can check my telenor messaging/calls details on net(through telenor web services) i just chckd there and there was no prove that how my balance got deducted i just called telenor customer services and asked them y my balance is deducting so they told me that u have accessed web. well i was surprised to hear coz people had told me that u cannot acces internet through gprs or wap on bb u have to buy the BB services. somehow i told the helpline guy that i dont need gprs as it is deducting my balance i can access net through my wifi so can u plz turn off my net services he just did like that and after that my balance ws not deducting bt when i accessed through wifi my builtin facebook and twitter app ws not working and error ws coming that contact the service provider.i ws not understanding y this is happening so i just visited the telenor main franchise in peshawar and discussed about my problem they took me to the guy who deal with bb services. i just told my prob to him and he said that because of ur blackberry if i will nt get bb services my balance will deduct like it is now. so i just left out from office and ask my friends who uses bb one has 8520 and other has 8900 one is on warid carrier and other on ufone. and i asked them about my problem and they said that no they have no issues of balance. they both r using almost a year and no one has ever get credit problem. and i just dint knew where to ask and whom to ask so i just clicked y not to ask on PW so here i am i just wrote this thread to be clear that what my prob actually is and what is the cure for it?? coz i don't want to loose my BB cause of this issue kindly help me i would b very thankful

here is the thing, you basically have an APN activated that is why your browser, facebook and twitter are redirecting to Cellular internet instead of Wi-Fi..

Firstly are you running Blackberry OS5 or OS6?

You need to go to options and go to "device" scroll down to the bottom "advanced system settings" then again scroll to the bottom to "TCP IP" and uncheck the APN settings enabled option... save and come out..

if you are on OS5 then open browser go to its settings and make sure you have "HOTSPOT" browser instead of telenor wap!

last.. Go to manage connections and under mobile network options make sure Data services is ON and while roaming is OFF! when you are done using wifi.. make sure you Turn data service to "OFF"

u just simply need to turn of data services, through manage Connections ICON. Secondly, select "Hotspot browser" instead of "Browser" in advanced options menu.

Remember, Browser is for GPRS/wap and Hotspot Browser is for Wifi.

@aqib racer i am actually using OS 6 and my APN settings were disabled bt data services were On.. and u mean to say while using wifi i had to turn data services On and after using turn it off. then my balance will not deduct? rite??? and what if when i turn data services ON at that time my balance gt deduct. coz i use wifi for almost 2,3 hours... and some one told me that telenor and zong offers edge .. if i switched my connection to ufone or warid den my balance will not deduct isnt it like this??

@imranhakro bro i just get to know that with OS 6 u dnt have to change to Hotspot browser. .

just go to options>>advanced>>>>browser>>>> and change default browser setting to hotspot instead of the network one..

go to "manage connections" and turn off everything except wifi. Now see if the wifi works.

Im sure earlier u were using the network GPRS for internet. That is why ur balance was deducted.

hey! all u r nt getting my prob... i can access my wifi easily just a prob is that when my cell is on net or without internet my balance deducts... its not em using gprs, my gprs is off n so vpn settings.. i think my cell access internet coz of edge, when em off wifi!! what u say now? i just need a solution because i have lost all of my balance.. i wud really appreciate a usefull rply thnx

okay then, take the sim out and then use internet, and see if the balance goes down...

and also please note that sms and phone service costs money and so does checking the balance again and again..

if u havent entered the VPN etc settings, EDGE or GPRS wud not work on ur phone...so its impossible that ur using GPRS/EDGE.

khair, Yes.. when you use Wi-Fi keep the Data services ON, when you are done using them then turn it OFF.. i also have a zong sim and same thing used to happen to me! but now im all good

hey my prob isnt solved :(((((((((( today when i used wifi and gt my data services on my balance gt deduct again.... wtf is dis???? when my data services were off my balance wsnt reducing and today i loss my 50rs just for enabling the data services to use the wifi.. wt shud i do now???

U know what bro, i have a BB bold 2 and a BB torch 9860... use em on mobilnk networks... I had the same problems... Just turn off ur mobile network and then use ur wifi... always keep ur data services off whenever u turn on the mobile network and thats all... U'll neverget ur balance deducted again..

BB phones try to access the BB services but due to the fact that u have not bought em, ur balance keeps on going away just for nothing. service operators will tell u nothing else but that u have accessed the edge service....

hey bro where were u bfo?? i did exactly wat u said and knw wat my balance is there as it is and no more reducing ohh mann lOve ya 2nd thing wanna knw wt if i change my network to ufone coz its not offering edge den my balance will deduct or not??
