BMW 316 - e21 with toyota20v

Cousin of mine has a 1980 BMW 316 using a toyota diesel engine in it since a few years wants little bit perf. power in it. Options to go for BMW engines is expensive so i suggested 20v.lol
so lets discuss the odds of 20v swap in it. to make a drift car outta it. Senior guys expertise most appreciated here apart from jokes:)

instead of 20V, y not an engine which is designed for rear wheel drive cars... other better, bigger engines

I think 4AGE 20V is not well suited for all cars......even it can used to placed in RWD but water piping and distributor is the main factor.....i think BMW have had large engine as compared to Corolla/Starlet/Sprinter varients....!well i think if you still wanna go for 4AGE.....4AGE 16V NOn TVis is better as it came up in RWD setup and you won't face any major work in it as compared to 20v....if u have bigger engine room..20V can also be the good to put in...!
all it need is its mating with Trueno's/Carina/Celica GT's T-50 Tranny....!
i think Diff of it is strong enough to bear it....i think no need to change it..!

Btw, this car gotta M10-B18 Engine in original, very legendary engine by bmw.

If he want perfomace then nothing except the original M10 block, if he wants economy then he should go for 3cte. 20V would be a bad choice for a bimmer.

well i thought 4age 16v is nice fit being rear wheel drive. it has huge fan cover behind radiator and 20v distributor may hit the firewall like it does in ae-86(rwd corolla)..

so far car has rear suspension orginal, frt suspension is of corolla 82.

engine bay looks large but its not very for large 2jz or ((3sge is better fit for fwd)),,,,,,,,,

plus avaliability of parts for 4age20v (afm) is amazing, that's why i thought 4age20v.

Actual engine was 1600cc so differencial should support 4age. i dont know much about diesel engines like 3c-t.. how huge it is for engine bay any one has that swap?,, i dont think owner wants to cut firewall for any engine.

Its original engine which was a M10/B18 was quite light and excellent engine rather a legendary engine incomparision to 4age or any diesel variant but as ya mentioned that it already got 82 rolla suspension then it would not be a problem. And M10/18 got displacements upto 1.6-2.0 L a routine bimmer style. And mounts are made for toyota as it already gotta diesel. So in my opinion go for 3c-t it will be excellent. Many 3 series got 3ct in britian and euro. 3C-t in a E-21 is like 4age in a charade. Power to weight ratio.

how many HP was the original engine ?
what is the approx weight of this car ?

somewhere around 92 hp.. orginal engine,, being 1600cc carby.. car body weight can be compared with toyota corona 1980

there was a variant toyota corona GT 1982 with 4age16v or similar engine

since the body is heavy i would recommend same as @chater did.
i have seen races(videos) of 3CT in corolla with VTI's and Altis

if he wants a petrol engine, go for Bt, easilly available

It gotta weight near to 1000-1100 kg, engine was something like 90-95 bhp. But M10 Block was one of the legendary block made by BMW as it was put in Formula 2, Formula 3, Many Eurpean touring races and in a Le man BMW aswell. M10 was avaialable frm 1.6-2.0L.

Btw, How much a bt costs ther in pindi/lhr?

My friend has a Mercedes black 80's model with a 16V 4AGE Swapped in. But there was some problem with its ECU so it didnt have that good a performance and he used it just to get to his Village on Eid's and Family Functions.

Anywayz, isnt the BT 20V available in a RWD Variant?

no 4age20v is or was avaliable on any rear wheel drive car.

I am with ghuncha on this one....3000cc turbo diesel...even a 2L-T would do fine.
