Do you have any idea why the E34 is known as one of the most reliable BMW's ever made to date?
With all due respect, treat a car wisely and it'll last with you forever.
I remember when I had my 88 Accord (CA), people used to ask me why have I kept a car that has insanely overpriced parts, will probably rust, has expensive maintenance and no 'resale' as well?
To be honest, the car was in my family for around 20 years and it had never had a major breakdown or left me stranded in the middle of nowhere. Why? Because it was maintained properly. Anyone who knows these Accords, is aware that the suspension literally relies on rubber bushes, if they go weak, the whole suspension component could give up and the car would sag.
Mine never did, since everything was taken care of.
So yeah my point being, buy a car, be aware of what you're buying, do your research, know the mechanics/working of the car, have a proper repair manual with you, don't go to 'ustaads', work in your own garage, as @Xulfiqar stated, have the proper tools with you instead of chinese spanners and I can assure you that the car will serve it's purpose without troubling you.
Saying that old BMW's are $hit, is a VERY stereotypical statement, and sadly anyone who has never maintained a German car will be most likely to stereotype.
I know what I'm getting into and I'm well aware of what the car will ask from me.
Thankfully I have my father with me for advice and suggestions, who has owned five BMW's in his lifetime (including an E34) and he believes in self service, there's one thing he's taught me and that is to work in my own garage.
The purpose of this thread is to find myself an E34 or an E32, I don't need fellow members giving me any advice over here.
Happy Wheeling!
