Bought Honda Civic 9th Generation in 2020

Hello Everyone,

I've recently bought a Honda Civic VTI Oriel Prosmatec 1.8 i-VTEC UG with a model year of 2016. So, I'd like to share my whole story behind this decision because I've been through so many ups and downs when I was planing to upgrade my car from Honda City i-VTEC Prosmatec 2016. So, buckle up yourself to read because this is gonna be interesting and informative for you.

So, I'd let you know that I'm so fanatic to own a good road worthy car because I used to travel with my family on highways often so I make sure to always go for genuineness. In this case, It's so hard to find a good car according to your taste because getting one or two pieces repainted is common and wouldn't be a big deal for someone. I had to upgrade from Honda City 1.3 i-VTEC Prosmatec and I had a budget of 1.5m to add and get my hands-on a next car.

TOYOTA COROLLA ALTIS 1.6 SuperECT 2020

One of my friend just bought Toyota Corolla Altis 1.6 Automatic in super white colour and he dropped his car at home for some personal reasons. I have driven that car for a month and the suspension was really comfortable and it was actually fun to drive. I couldn't determine the fuel consumption because that car was just new and I drove the car for 4,000kms in city with heavy/light foot. But roughly, I can mark to 12-13km/l in city with AC on but I realised upgrading to Altis 1.6 from Honda City wouldn't be a major upgrade.

Let's see what I can get upon spending 1.5millions.

1. Dual Air Bags
2. 1600cc Engine (300cc Upgrade)
3. Immobiliser
4. Alloy Rims
5. Imported Tyres (Already upgraded my tyres to Advan DB)
6. Design/Space...

And, I'm sorry if I'm missing something. Anyways, major upgrades have been mentioned above. So, I was ready to book same car for January'21 in Super White colour in November'20. I visited several Toyota Dealerships in Lahore to book my slot for January'2021 and booking was closed until next further notice. I was told by someone that Toyota is planning for a minor facelift for Corolla in early 2021. And by far, I have already sold my Honda City with a very good price tag. I need a car as soon as possible to meet my daily commute.

HOW I DECIDED FOR HONDA CIVIC VTI ORIEL PROSMATEC 1.8 I-VTEC

Next morning I woke up and met my mother on breakfast upon discussion she dropped her idea to look up for any homely used driven car in a good condition. Because of this you wouldn't have to bound your hard earn money for several months to get your car and this would definitely helps you to avoid premium on cars to get earlier. So, I started looking for used Toyota Corolla Altis 1.6 2019-2020 and their asking price bracket were above their invoice prices. So, I looked up for other cars and by searching on Pakwheels I found Honda Civic 9th Generation to a good value to money car. I searched so many car and the asking price bracket for 2015-2016 model was started from 2.7m to 2.85m. With this, I can save upto 700k to 800k and upgrade is a MASSIVE. Tons of features I can get in a low price as compared to Corolla Altis 1.6.

I visited to find a good car for myself and luckily on the very next day I found a car according to my taste which was owned my cousin's friend's mother and that car was just driven for 48,000kms on odometer and the bumpers even get repainted ever and this was one of those last production units which comes with Sports Chrono Leather seats, Chrome Door Handles, Upgraded Key Fob, U shaped from grill with 3 camera's android unit. And her mother was a lecturer and used this car to meet her university. I took the test drive and taken the car to Honda dealership for engine, body and underneath inspection. And, the inspection report came successful. They were asking 3.05m for the car and I asked my cousin to barging with him so we managed to lock the deal at 2.9m. I know it might be a high price for this car but I found this car a completely genuine and up to the mark. And, the owner have just upgraded tyres from Euro Star to Yokohama Advan DB 205/65/R15. So, I bought the car and I did some jobs as I bought the car and so car me and my family actually enjoying the car.

Because of that idea, I have actually saved 500K also saved my 4months and have avoided this premium culture. And, I found a very good car in a low price with a tons of features including;

1. Sunroof
2. Cruise Control
3. Leather Seats
4. 1800cc Engine
5. Airbags
6. Climate Control
7. Eco Mode etc etc...

Now, I found this car major upgrade from Honda City 1.3 Prosmatec and saved my money over Toyota Altis 1.6.
This was my experience behind purchase decision of this car. I'd like to thanks all of those people who helped me and for their opinions. This was really a hard job to do for me because this was the first time I went for a used car.

I realised buying Altis 1.6 from Honda City wouldn't be a major upgrade as most of the features are similar.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that City Prosmatec 2016 comes with even a single airbag.

Design/Space...

Again, I disagree with you on that as both City and Corolla are different segment sedans with Corolla being a C-segment sedan with more space and the design of Corolla is also somewhat newer in comparison with almost over a decade old design of Honda City which is a B-segment sedan with lesser space if you compare it with Corolla, so in no way, these both cars can be compared.

Please keep in mind that I don't want to discourage you or to start a Corolla/City war, but I just mentioned some of the facts.

Indeed it is a major upgrade from Honda City 1.3 Prosmatec, just a little heavy on your pocket in terms of fuel if you compare it with City.

Masha Allah congratulations on your purchase. I think you got a good deal because 2016 model clean car price is somewhere around 29 to 31 if mileage is under 40-50k

I'm really sorry for being so late to response. However, Again really sorry for making this messed up. You're absolutely right. I had to say that such features only differentiate Toyota Corolla Altis 1.6 from Honda City 1.3 Prosmatec.

Yes, I read again and I did some mistakes in my post which may confused many of viewers. And, I will re-check and let it to be correct. However, Altis is way better than a Honda City as it falls under a compact sedan category like Yaris. But, Atlis has a different class in many ways.

Suisingly, I have been using high-octane since I bought the car and I have been getting 13-14.5km/l without AC and econ mode on with a light foot. I used to engage cruise control at 43km/h till I can manage. So, these figures depends on various conditions.

And, I managed to get max 10-12km/l from Honda City 1.3 Prosmatec.

Congratulations on your purchase. May Allah bless you and your family more. This car would have been a head turner for sure, only if it wasn't of black color. But again, when you are buying a used car, there is always a limited option in the choice of color. I hope you'll maintain it good enough to prove me wrong. Because, in my opinion, if you wanted to buy a black one, you may have compromised on "total genuine" phenomenon. Black color in repaint is as good as a genuine one (if you get it done from a decent workshop). That would have saved you some more bucks, if you would have gone for one or two pieces repainted vehicle. You have actually paid the premium on something that could be compromised. But since you have said, that total originality was your preference so forget what I am saying. It was just my opinion and I have no disrespect whatsoever for your purchase or priorities

Allah naseeb karay. though strangely i have found this particular generation of civic kind of cramped in space, specially the rear seats. Reborn was ok, so is the next generation, but this somehow always felt cramped to me. What is you opinion on it ?

I am myself searching for a 9th gen oriel, I've always liked this generation more than the current one, But I am looking to spend max 26 for a maintained car with a 2014/15 model. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much brother. I really appreciate your suggestions. However, you're absolutely right. Black is really hard to maintain. Even, swirls, scratches tiny dents are more visible on this color. But, It looks so aggressive once it is properly cleaned.

Thank you so much brother. I didn't felt anything compromising in space. Although, I have moved from Honda City to this It actually feels more comfortable to me and spacious cabin for front seats as well as rear seats. But, comparing to my uncle's Civic X has a compromising rear seats comfort. This is what I have felt by comparing both.

But, Trunk space is kinda compromising for me. I mean City trunk has a deep space so I can manage my water 19L water bottles easily but in this car I have to place the bottles horizontally. Aur humesha break lagatay hue apas mein bajti rehti hain. Lol

I would suggest you to go for 2015 model as they have upgraded the suspension from onward. You can find a good car under 100k driven millage. I will keep this thread active by time so you will be keep updated for your beauty.

Thanks bro! I wasn't sure if there were any suspension issues with the older models, I'll keep that in mind.

How is your experience going so far, have you had any maintenance work on the car ? and whats the average you're getting out of it. I am just trying to stay informed about the costs to keep this car.

I guess you mentioned used Corolla demands were above invoice price but you bought 9th Gen 2016 model for 300K above it's invoice price may be more.

Yes, I'm trying my best to publish next posts to cover up the things and expenses I did as I bought. Still, I'm trying to manage few stuffs to import from Dubai/China/USA.

It's really fun to drive and I'm getting 13.5km/l to 14km/l with eco mode on without AC in city. Also, I used to fill up my tank half with high-octane.

Yes, I meant to say for Corolla. Their asking prices were 34-35.5lacs for 2019-2020 models.

Hello Pakwheelers, I'm still enjoying the ride comfort as it was on the first day. Recently, Have upgraded with NGK Iridium plugs. Engine is much responsive now. No issue at all. Alhamdulillah.
