I have purchased Indus Motors product - from Toyota Eastern Motors in Karachi, I didnt pay any "own" money at all. - I booked it, paid it and they delivered when it was completed at the factory - got a call - went there and picked it up. Used that car like a normal person would.

The price I paid was the price that was declared by IMC to be sold at.

If you are paying something as "premium" to "own" a car - How is that the manufacturer fault?

e.g. Nissan sell the GTR in USA, it sells for 20K USD above retail at any dealership due to the hype demand for it - does this mean that Nissan USA are in the game?

same with Land Cruisers - its near impossible to buy a "zero mile" one in USA as any given toyota dealer gets 2 a year only. And they are used for 5K miles by the owners/GM etc. - If you do want a fresh item - you pay more than the sticker as they are buyers lined up for it.

so how do we place this crown of blackmarketing on the manufacturer? That too on a mosquito market like Pakistan?

another example, If the open market is stocking/hoarding goods to sell at premium rates, is this the fault of the manufacturer? In my opinion no!!

Both Dr S Akbar Zaidi and Ehsan Malik agree that boycotting imported goods, such as imported automobiles which are a source of revenue for the government owing to the high amount of duties the government earns on these imports, would lead to a loss of revenue for the government especially if consumers boycott buying high-end imported vehicles. Malik says that this is going to have a multiplier effect as well since the government will be denied other taxes, sales and car registration etc., earned on automobiles.

Myth: Cutting down used imports will save foreign exchange.

Reality: CKDs and SKDs cost MORE than 3-5 year used imports.

Result: Government loses revenue AND foreign exchange, consumer loses choice, PAAPAM wins.

dont compare scrap cars to new cars - if you do wish to compare import and local then compare imported "new" cars and local "new cars"

you wont compare a used pair of jeans to a new one would you?

Its not me doing the comparison uncle jee. When customers choose to buy what youre calling scrap despite 200-300% duties over your brand new marvels of engineering from your local ‘manufacturers’ its the market comparing.

And the topic was about foreign exchange aspect of imported vs local assembly. But you wanna turn it into a comparison then please start a separate topic. You can tell everyone how your locally assembled wonders are the epitome of quality, saftey, value etc.

Did you really just compare a WagonR to a GTR? And by your logic a problem is not a problem just because it also exists in the US(even on a very very small scale).

Now read it closely - a car selling for "premium money over invoice" is not the manufacturers responsibility. Its the dealership doing it - get them by the noose. (replace car with donkey if you wish)

When toyota moved the very last XRS corollas with the 2ZZ engine, they also went on premium. - I dont recall anyone calling Gulf States Toyota or Toyota North America to complain that they should GTFO.

It was the local dealers amping up the price.

When SNK closed up in Pakistan - their last assembled motorcycles were sold at 150% of their original price - Was SNK pocketing this money?
