So sad to hear the news, no amount of words can describe the feelings, I am sure all of us are deeply saddened and shocked. The loss of families involved is the greatest and can never be filled. May Allah have mercy on the souls of those who passed away and give strength to their heirs in coping with their great loss,,, Aamin
I attended one drag race, arranged probably a year or so ago at Walton Airport, Lahore. I was convinced then that without proper drag strips, high speed machines will one day prove lethal. I was an accident waiting to happen because none of the organizers, whether in Lahore, Islamabad or Karachi were pushed to develop a proper drag strip. An accident like this, at even higher speed, happed in Karachi 6-7 months ago, luckily there were no spectators in the path of that black RX-7 of Muhammad Ashraf.
It is said that "God whispers before you hit the brick wall". Having the benefit of hindsight, the RX-7 accident was one of the many whispers of GOD, but none listened it.
My personal opinion is that racing on public roads should be banned for good, organizers must be asked that if they want to arrange racing events than they first need to built proper facilities for it.
It is the inherent danger to public at large that made me choose off road racing over street racing. Even off road racing is not completely safe for spectators and we regularly hear accidents happening around the world. In that last Cholistan, saw a couple of youngsters crossing the race track on their CD-70, hit by one of the racing 4x4s, luckily, both teenagers survived with broken bones only and the driver of the 4x4 sustained injuries when he rolled over while evading the direct hit/accident.
No sport, how much so ever dangerous, is bad, its just the way it is managed needs improvement. Further, the drivers and spectators need to be well informed about the dangers so that they can take proper safety measures/remain at safe distance from the track.
Having said that, must admit, yesterday was probably the darkest day for motorsports in Pakistan. This sport was starting to develop during the last 3-4 years and while still in its infancy, has suffered a blow that will haunt its further development for years to come.
