Assalam o alaikum users!
kindly suggest a car other than mehran in a budget of maximum 8 lacs
car must be reliable for daily usage
good fuel economy should also be a factor
seats should be comfortable for tall people
i currently drive a cultus 2012 and my legs touch the steering wheel which results in poor handling so cultus and mehran are out of the question
looking for suggestions.

diesel is not an issue but would a 2000 model be reliable for daily usage?
i dont want to spend alot of time in a workshop.

Buy a maintained car, and yes, as reliable as a new car. Parts are still available, not sure about new, but the used parts market has lots

any tips on how to check a diesel engine if its properly maintained?

Diesels are a bit trickier to check but you have to take an expert with you. The engine is also harsher and makes more noise and vibration. Liana and baleno otoh dont have these issues.

For starters, let it warm up, remove the dipstick on a start vehicle and check if there is any blue smoke coming from the little hole, next take it for a spin and pay attention for any noise that seems outside the ordinary. A perfectly tuned engine will only give black smoke when accelerated hard, otherwise there should be negligible to no smoke
