Burning Avi / Mkv files to run on DVD Player

i have got loads of movies sitting on my harddisk and i want to advice on using the appropiate software which can convert these movie files (which are in avi / mkv format) into DVD format so i can burn them on DVD and enjoy the experience on my TV via DVD player. somehow, watching movies on PC / Laptop is a lot less fun then enjoying the same laying in front of your TV.

Hope the guru's here can help me out on this one.

i would suggest not converting them at all...

buy any one of the following.

Chinese DVD players with USB input... support vob, divx, mkv etc etc.
HD player like Western Digital media player
higher end graphic card which outputs to your TV at good resolution.

well bro..
check ur dvd player if its divix supported or not.. if it is .. then u can burn 3to5 movies but burn as a data disk.and can watch on ur dvd player.
u can download roxio or other burners like cheetah.. .
other things..
amarmak is ryte abt the Chinese DVD player..
u can use any hardisk if its in FAT 32 format..last year i tried everything from connectin desktops hardisks to to laptops with enclosures.and it worked with this Chinese dvd with usb slot..
well i have western digital s WinTv now so no problem at all.
u can buy that iam attaching a picture. btw there's a new model out aswel but iam not sure if its available in pak or not
that one is with LAN Hdmi n everythin u need .
and i saw other one iam attachin a picture its available in pak its by dANY and it can play too..its a 3.5 multimedia..
iam attachin both pictures the one iam using and the one availble in pak.

I dont think any DVD player can play MKV format except Bluray player. avi format can however be played by most DVD players these days.

Bluray does not play .mkv file.
.mkv files are matroska files and are a combination of alot of codecs.

as per your question
there is a gr8 soft for burning mkv files to dvds
it called MKV2VOB .

it is time consuming but worth it.

You can look for media players but i did'nt find any in lahore that had HDMI output.(and very few supported the .mkv files)
so there is no use of that since you cannot have the HD output of the movies via component. (I have more than 100 HD movies on my HDD all are .mkv).

if there are any chinese dvd players which can play .mkv as data, then I am not aware of it.

I stand corrected. I too have a small collection of HD movies downloaded from net in mkv format and they are not playable on my DVD plyer. was looking for a similar software and found some but non had an option to retain 5.1 surround sound.
Tell me is .VOB the way to go for retaining picture quality and sorround sound or Xvid is best. ?

well bro's i use to play MKV n other on my older version of XBMC version before 2006 can play mkv files..easily.
i modded my old xbox includin the hardisk formated it installed 320gb hdd and usin it
as a multimedia player used it for 5years n so on its still same..
jus connect the lan wire.. transfer movies with flashfxp..(ftp) and simple
even u can make movie covers in it ..
ill attach ma xbox's pic aswel..
others things u can do is.. u can share movies on ur pc/laptops and xbox can locate for shared stuff n play aswel.. via lan..
