Buying a high milage 2012 Vigo 3.0 DFD worth it?

Hi, thinking to put down a token on a 'Hilux Vigo 3.0 DFD Thailand 2012' .. overall i've checked it myself. The next visit would be with a mechanic... seemed and sounded okay to me.. but the ODO reads 180,000 kms.. So I know its not meter reversed (unlike many I've seen in the city, blatant fraud happening) ..

what do you guys suggest? if the mechanic approves it? I saw shock and ball joint boot torn, and a few minor stuff like side mirror covers etc..So i''ll have to spend like 30-50k immeddiately on this stuff including oil and filter changes..

Should I go for a 180k km milage Hilux Vigo 3.0 ? as per American Car pages.. 120k miles is just breaking in for a Hilux Vigo truck / toyota tocoma / 4runner etc. Im getting a pretty good deal, it is cheaper like 5-6 lac than the low milage ones.. what do you suggest ?

Things I checked and seemed okay to me:
- Paint
- pillars/frames (few piece touchups only)
- engine sound, oil and radiator condition
- Tires (but near to end of life)
- general condition was very good
- interior was good

Whats the purpose of the vehicle. If its going to be a daily, remember that you will initially have to spend around 500k on it on fluids, filters, belts, tires and unforeseen faults

Its a side vehicle, with occasional trips to Gharo or Bahria town/ Hyderabad. Like 60-80km a week thing. My issue is i would be selling it for a lot less 1-2 years down the line, which is when the ODO will read 200,000 km

But sadly, as I visited major markets like one near Islamia College, most roughed up vehicles read ODO at 69,000 km . 12 year old models. They're famous for meter reversing. i'm guessing why get a suspicious high milage vehicle for 5-6lac more ? why not go for this one.

Diesel engines are great for longevity where you see European cars reach 350k km rather commonly, here however there is always some talk about low quality diesel found at our pumps. Regardless the engine will probably outlive the chassis and suspension components of the car.

Have you driven the car? Do you think it fits the purposes well that you are buying it for? I'm quite unfamiliar with Gharo or Bahria town/Hyderabad; if it requires some tough off road and uncarpeted roads the Hilux is quite capable and the Thailand models do offer more comfort. However, at the end of the day the Hilux is a work truck, designed to move heavy loads, tow and a quite capable off roader. I do not think you have to worry too much about the resale, you're buying it cheap and you will sell it cheap so it all shall come full circle.

yar .. i plan on moving to Prado or LC100 by 2026.. So this is just a stop-gap exciting vehicle for me.. getting away from my Mira 2014 ... how does 55lac for it sound ? what do you think I'd be able to sell it for in 1.5 years ? thanks again

A Prado or LC will feel like you're driving on clouds compared to the Hilux. Could you skip the Hilux to get to the other vehicle faster?

Imagining you buy it for 55 lac, spend upto 5 lac in terms of maintaining it and little works here and there (emergency fund), I would assume 50 ish lac would be what you're looking at when it comes time to sell. By that time I wonder if LCs and Prados will appreciate a little more in comparison though. Considering how much fuel you could save with your current Mira it may make more sense to get to your preferred vehicle first. I hope you're ready to deal with the increased fuel consumption you will face either way!

this is car guy mentality
old diesel 4x4's dont sell on mileage but on condition
almost bought one with 4 lac plus mileage, was on service on a oil rig.engine suspension was 10/10
sold one with 4 lac plus mileage

1KD is sensitive. eventually black smoke issue appears. you get dirty diesel couple of times and bye bye
injectors change.then turbo change.then EGR change.

we prefer sticking to 2KD.lesser complications. people like 1kd as more power but i see tears when they have to change injectors

How to know if proper diesal was used (not irani) .. as most people use it for cross country travelling.. going to Quetta etc.. hence the diesal there is extremely shady.

avoid the 1KD Hilux if it is your first diesel vehicle - Pakistani vigo with 2KD might be a better option
Pakwheels and Olx prices are usually overstated - 55 is not an attractive price unless the condition is too good
Yes, it is not a low cost hobby (e.g. tires alone 200k), running costs, maintenance etc.

Do not buy without a Pre Purchase inspection from a reputed SUV Mechanic and don't buy one until you have test driven 2-3 for sale vehicles for comparison

Yokohama Geolandar AT G015 265/65/17 2023 dates costed me 55k per tire a few months ago. Vigo uses 16s I guess they should be cheaper.

For reference, I plan on refueling from Company Operated Shell Pump at 3-Talwar Karachi

.. Very afraid of this 1KD injector and turbo issue .. and don't want to spend 3-4 lacs on these repairs.. so will the 2KD engine fare better in this regard?

I know i'd be forgoing power and comfort by going towards the 2KD Vigo Champ..

Do not worry too much about 1kd injectors, they will last minimum 250000km, as the diesel quality is a lot better now days, with cetane 5 diesel, Newer model hilux with 1gd is a lot more sensitive to diesel quality than the 1kd, and almost all of them are running pretty good.
For 1kd, if you keep the maintenance on time, oil changes 5k, diesel filter changes at 12k, air filter at 15k, and using injector cleaners sometimes, you'll be good to go for atleast 300000km.

but the car I wish to buy has no service history, and the guy says he doesn't believe in good or bad diesel lmfao.. Its all made up bs he says.

also claims he is unsure of any past engine work, cause the car has ~180k on the ODO..

He has taken it to Pakistan tour twice (from Karachi) and didn't think about the diesel but did refueling from PSO and SHELL only.

however, the test drive was awesome. Ran as if it was being chased by cops lol, the shoot was amazing, especially for a 180k milage car. Idk, still contemplating.

You'll not find history of 99% used cars in Pakistan. But if you are serious about this. Check following for engine health:
-Smoke at startup, idle and during acceleration, shouldn't be any smoke
-Idle should be smooth at 750 rpm with no fluctuations
-there shouldn't be any tik tik sound from the engine
-average must be above 11
-check blowby by removing the engine cap at idle
-check signs of any leakages below around the engine (there shouldn't be any leakage)

If everything checks well, engine is in prestine condition

Secondly, most of the 1kd engines in Pakistan went to trash because of poor maintenance rather than diesel quality. Diesel filter and air filters are the main culprit they should be changed as per recommended interval with original toyota rather than after market. Otherwise 1kd is a pretty awesome engine and 200000km are nothing for it.
