By Road Karachi to Murree

Hey folks! I need some expert advices and guidelines as this is going to be my first by road trip ever. We're planning to go from Karachi to Murree in just a few months. I've never driven on the highway before but I'm a very good driver otherwise, been driving for 6 years. I want to know from people who are experienced with this kind of trip, specifically Karachi to Murree. Please tell me if there is anything I should be careful about, things I need to know and things I need to look for, etc.

First and foremost is that the vehicle must be reliable. Rest about route and other details, some info regarding vehicle and occupants i.e. Family or friends will help in providing guidelines.

Honda City it's a new car and we will be 4 - 5 friends at max.

I frequently travel on N5 Karachi - Lahore - Karachi. About this route i can recommend that you leave Karachi early in the morning say two hours before sunrise. That way you cross sind in day time.

Once in punjab, road and traffic conditions are relatively much better. If you guys are comfortable sharing driving seat (more h than one driver) you can easily reach Lahore in a stretch. Otherwise Rahimyarkhan or bahawalpur are options for night stay from where you can continue next morning.

There is another route from multan where you don't have to go via Lahore but i haven't used it personally so can't vouch for it. Heard it saves you 4 hours drive

Yes leave before sunrise karachi say punjab ka border will take 6-7 hours and dont make use less stops and make stop in hala or qazi ahmed and after that next stop in sukkur until sukker you would have done 6 hours drive and don't drive in night its best option to stay

We used to travel on M5 (Karachi - Islamabad) route. These are very busy highways with 24 hours traffic on route, so there's nothing to worry about. You will find Fuel pumps, CNG stations and restaurants throughout the route.

you can move any time no issue at all. But its best to leave Karachi at Fajr time. Till lunch time you will be at Sukkur. Reach Rahim yar khan by evening. You can make it till Bahawalpur and if you have time you can reach Multan late night. Leave Bahawalpur early and you can reach Lahore before evening. Take some rest, don't enter in city and M2 will take you comfortably to Islamabad in 4.5 to 5 hours.
No need to go Murree late night. Spend night in Isd or Pindi and in morning you can go to Murree enjoying the beauty of the route.
From Multan you can also take Shorkot, Toba Teksingh, Faisalabad route which will lead you to Lhr-Isd Motorway near Pindi Bhattian. This way you will avoid Lahore route and can save almost 3 hours.

• Khi - Hyd Superhighway is not that good but Road after Hyderabad till Naushero Feroz is very good. From Naushero Feroz to Sukkur, not that good but after Sukkur , Ghotki- Pano Aqil -Obaro section is in bad shape. Once you enter Punjab you will get a sigh of relief as highways are very good. Some friends suggest that don't travel in Sindh after dark but there's nothing to be afraid as this is the main Pakistan highway and traffic runs 24 hours.

• Just keep your car fit.

• Avoid overspeeding.
• Drive alternate and keep changing driver after a couple of hours.
• Take small brakes after every couple of hours.
• Keep complete papers, licence and highway code book.

I have personally travelled in Sind in day as well as night time. Leaving Karachi at 5 in the morning and taking dinner in Lahore at 11pm. At other time leaving at 5pm and taking breakfast in Lahore at 10am

And that to all alone. I won't recommend doing it though
