Camping at Nanga Parbat Base Camp

We have planned a trip for Fairy Meadows and Nanga Parbat Base Camp in mid june. Thanks to the travel gurus for their detailed replies

We are 6 people, we are taking our own camping equipment and as recommended we are also taking our own food and related equipment. We have decided to pitch our camp at FM, and trek towards the Base camp early next morning.

One thing I would like to know is that at almost every place Gurus recommend making a round trip from Fairy Meadows to Base Camp and back, that is of 10-12 hours. Can't we camp at the base camp? Is it recommended? If not, then what are the problems there which one may face if they decide to camp for one night at the base camp?

Also, you may note that we have a little bit of experience of trekking. But no experience of camping. Would you recommend us to stay the night at Base camp?

Its not that u cannot camp at NP basecamp. First, u will have to decide and prepare in advance if u are planning to camp there. You will require camping and food related stuff to be carried to that point.

The climb is tough towards the end and weather is kind of harsh. Very extreme and chilly in day time and u can well imagine about night.

If u have proper camping gear to spend night in extreme weather then u can definitely camp there.

What is the approximate minimum temperature we can expect there at night in mid June?

What is the place like? Do some people usually camp there at night or all come back to FM?

I believe we have all the required things and we can carry the camping gear and food relates stuff up there (if not in 6 hrs, then we'll make it in 7 if we're sure that we would be spending the night). Even with all that, we still are amateurs when it comes to camping. So considering that, would you recommend us camping?

Most importantly, is it worth it?

What type of camps do you have? Single skin camps are useless for these environment as they will start dripping on you in midnight. Double skin (good quality) would be the ones useful in this environment. If your camp has broken zip or torn from some side, it will be a disaster as heat won't be trapped, hence making the experience miserable.

Each guy must have a separate sleeping bag, once again zips should be intact to trap the heat.

Few people camp at NP BC, some camp at Beyal and most return back to FM. The altitude of FM is 3300 m and NP BC is 4300 m.

umm, i'm not sure. We bought a new camp for this purpose. As i mentioned, we are noobs when it comes to camping
How do u tell the difference between a single skin and a double one?

Other than that, we do have good sleeping bags (with proper zips), warm mattress, and the new camp won't create any problems of broken zips i guess.

Any idea about the temperature at night at NP BC?

Temperature would be near zero but wind is very strong and chilly. And your tents should be water proof for sure to tackle rain.

I guess there is only one way to go from fairy meadows and that is towards NP base camp... Its a 6 hour treck one way which is steep difficult and glaciers are thin this time of year... You can come back in 3-4 hours I guess so there goes your whole day and you have to stay in FM again after coming back

fangturi is a small village just below FM u can visit in couple of hours...........
