If you dont want to sale the car you can go for a 1jz single turbo
Or a 1uzfe is also good
Just raise it alot because its chamber would be prone to hitting as its quite low

Those are giant engines that done belong anywhere near a rx8.
Rebuild the engine, there are new seals etc available that are longer lasting than OEM ones.
If you really really really want to swap go for a smaller one like 3SGE or 2ZZGE. Bigger engines will be a PIA to swap. THey have been done but have destroyed the cars.

Highly recommended to keep the rotary and rebuild it. Best for resale too.
But if you really wanna swap go for a smaller 3sge or 3sgte. Or a 2zzge. Around 190hp. Will be great for your rx8

You can do a jz but stick to 1jz ,2jz is out of question

Or find a 3sgte upwards of 3rd gen youw ill be getting around 240 hps that would be a good amount of power for a rx8

Probably with a jz would be nice ,because would be going twin turbo on it

1jz is fine for rx8 works perfectly 2jz is heavy for it wont recommend that
1jz cars work perfectly fine
If you are just looking for a decent power then 3sgte would be perfect but if tou want to mod the engine later on then get a jz

What about upgrading 1 jz to 1.5 jz gte

All you would be saving is a very slight weight from the block nothing else ,and for few extra torque,i dont think it would be wirth it for a rx8 specially if you are using the stock gear because the extra torque would be just killing the gear in the long run,the stock gear can just bear around a little bit more than the stock specs
