Can the 1UZ-FE be swapped into a 1990 Toyota surf?

the current engine (3rz) is quite slow so i am thinking on swapping it with a 1UZ cuz it has got plenty of power, I just want to know that if it is a good idea to do it, and if it is then what are the most common problems I could encounter while swapping it?. Plus what do you reckon the fuel economy would be? the 6-7 kmpl fuel average was for the lexus lc200, which is much heavier than my own truck, like 1 ton more. So i was wondering if the fuel average would be better in my own truck or if it would be the same?

2uz in cygnus gives about 5-6 kmpl in city which is 4700cc. 1uz 4000cc will give about 6-7 in any other body like surf. It'd be better to swap in 5vz v6 3400cc than 1uz, both are fuel guzzlers though. With swapping such a big engine, don't look for fuel economy as you'll be disappointed because these are ideal figures while swapped cars always have fuel average issues unless properly worked on by professionals. Otherwise go for 1kd for fuel average and performance side by side and then get it tuned aftermarket. It gives 8-9 in '16-'17 revo 3.0d. Diesel is now cheaper than petrol and provides much more torque which is primarily required for offroading.

what about the 1gd FTV? it's quite reliable and fuel efficient at the same time. It's quite new so the price would be quite high as well and that would be a huge bummer

Yes that's the only reason 1gd isn't swapped much here. Though still worth to check its price in scrapyards such as bilal gunj as its a very good engine, way too much torque and excellent fuel average.

im very new to this stuff so i want to get every piece of advice i could so please bare me with me lol, imagine if i couldn't even get hands on the 1kd or the 1gd FTV, are there any other alternatives considering into account that i want a powerful, fuel efficient and a reliable engine. advice would be great

Currently not aware of the prices as they have increased quite a bit over the past year. Bought a 1nz with 4-speed auto for 80k 2.5 years ago and now it's almost 150k so you would get an idea of how much prices have increased.
5vz fe v6 3400cc is powerful and very reliable as this engine is now used more than ever in swaps for fj40's and what not but again fuel average is the issue. Thing is that performance and fuel efficiency don't go well together for petrol engines, its either power or full efficiency. Another solution would be tune your 3rz 2.7L from unichip or maxpower and modify it for more output. 1KZ is also an option but thats a bit old now.
In my opinion, 1kd would be the most value to money right now with power and fuel efficiency and if tuned, it even gets better. Yes, it has a problem of getting its injectors dirty sometimes due to high sulfur diesel here in Pakistan.

That can only be said after checking how is the engine. 3rz is very sluggish from factory without vvti, you could check on what power gains you can make after chipping ecu and tunes etc etc. If it's not enough for you, then engine swap is the option. But first, have to check whether even 1kd can fit into '90 surf without much hassle. Plus finding a reliable mechanic for engine swaps are a blessing so be sure to have that otherwise it can a be complete nightmare.

It's completely upto you whether you want to modify stock 3rz or go for an engine swap. Get a reliable mechanic and electrician, take them with you to check the engine's condition through compression tests and to check any blow-by in Diesels. Get a complete setup with ecu and complete wiring. And negotiate as much as you can with these shopkeepers as they tend to be a bit dhokaybaaz. They'll take your engine as scrap as well so be sure to sell it a good rate. Be ready to spend as projects like these tend to get expensive especially now after inflation.
Take suggestions from other people to see more possible solutions and tips for projects.

hey im back, so i've decided on going for the 1GD FTV as it's available in the market right now, that engine was launched quite recently while my car is like 30 years old, so a big technological gap right there. So i was wondering if you could like tell me how much fabrication would be done to my car in order for the engine to work properly, my car's already a diesel so that's quite good.
Any link to a similar conversion would be helpful as well!

Yes thats a big difference so it would need some alteration, and only a mechanic can tell that who going to swap the engine. Get a good electrician on board to rectify any problems faced.

He means dont buy a standalone engine buy a cut truck that has the engine in it so you will get all the stuff with it (witing sensors and ecu)
Half cuts used to be easy to buy but they have decreased a lot in the market and a halfcut for this engine would be very expensive. You need to bisit the market to proceed further
