Can we Mix two different brand engine oil of same rating?

Assalam o Alikum.
I have 1.6 Altis 2015, clocked 41k. Recently changed its oil and poured mobil1 5w-30 full synthetic which comes in 4ltr pack.where as the engine requires 4.25 ltr of oil. So 250 ml is short and i am unable to find the same oil in 1ltr packing. Can we use 5w-30 SN , full synthetic of some other brand? If so plz also guide about brand too. So people suggest to use 5w-50 SN in mobil1 full synthetic which is available in 1ltr pack?

i don't think its recommend to do that. get that 4 litre and keep it safe for refiling every time you change you oil.

for 4000 ml 250 ml is non_significant quantity. add any brand of same 5w30 and level up. i have done it with 5w-30 number of times the brands are different, so the left over is added in other brand bottle for use at next oil change. No harm to motor so far

Isn't oil that has been opened not worthy for use for next oil change?

no sir if after opening the bottle left over is stored properly capped & in shaded environment away from moisture and extreme heat. It has a life of approx 12-18 month.

4 liters are enough. How does it look on the dipstick. If slightly lower than the top dot it's safe. I have tried it myself for 1,000 kms, then got the exact same oil from a friend's workshop as many customers car take 3 liters, he only charges them for 3 liters and uses the remaining to make a full pack and uses in own and family cars.

Two of my friends are filling just 4 litres for the past four years in their Altis and no issues.

About mixing there are different opinions. Some say it can be done as 200 ml is a very small volume to have any impact. Some say can be done but with same company closer viscosity because additive packages have unique polymers to every company and there is a slight chance of any adverse change.

My advice is to keep it 4 liters.

Dont mix different brand oils. It is not recommended at all. And problems dont necessary arise very soon. But it definitely has an effect on the engine.
If u have in depth knowledge and you are an expert on oils and you know for sure that both the oils are exactly the same and they mix absolutely evenly then i think it will not be an issue. But i am sure non of us is that kind of expert. So my advise is to refrain from this practice if u like your car.
