Since I don't know much about how they both work, just wondered if you can surpercharge and turbo charge a car at one time? ie instead of twin turbo, one turbo and one supercharger.
I know it sounds stupid but just wondered
Well it can be done because Turbo Runs on Exhaust gases while SC runs on Crank Power so it can be done But the Problem comes in getting the air from both things to the engine effectivley+you also have to manage fuel for both things i-e Fuel for SC on low end and for Turbo on high end.There's also the Issue of Boost You don't want to over boost and Ruin your motor Khair I don't have very Detailed Knowledge about it but i think it can be done but it will be way complicated and harder to do then the twin turbo thing.And it's not a stupid question about an year ago I was looking for the answer to the very same question and as far as i remember i saw a few cars on some forums runing both SC and Turbo at the same time.
You piqued my curiosity too, SDM. So I went looking to quench my hunger for knowledge. It turns out that Volkswagen has done it in 2005 for Golf 1.4 TSI. Read it here: http://www.autozine.org/technical_school/engine/tech_engine_3.htm.
Scroll down to “Supercharger + Turbo: Volkswagen Twincharger”. Enjoy.

Thank you all
@Riz
Didn't know VW had that in their 1.4 TSI engines.. Thanks
yeah such project must be done here using Smaller turbo for quick spool and then supercharger for the topend (Y)
YES it can be done...the same strategy has been implemented in a very very famous engine......THE 2JZ-GTE...yes Supra's motor employs both super charging and turbos...I know that is the case...damn sure of it but still correct me if wrong...
Twincharged 4age20v.
im waitin for a honda engine to pop in soon ...
lancia tried this WAAAAAY back in it's stratos rally car,... was a flop back then since even their most qualified engineers were not that smart. nowdays it can be done due to increased knowledge of forced inductino as well as improvements in hardware.
biggest issue for a DIY job would be to control the air/fuel ratios.
Super charger gets you good torque whereas turbo dont!!Maybe the geniuses would have thought,"Lets put both and we will get torque as well as hp". :S
You should check out Bee R's nissan silvia s15. ( I dunno why the front is not S15 :s)
its running a SR20DET with a supercharger on top :

@wait
WOW! That's one nice Silvia! Btw, the video link isn't working
I remember readin an article on a guy who turbochanged n supercharged his honda integra but this was abt 5yrs ago n i think it was featured in a fastcar mag
VW already has something like this in its Golf GT not to be confused with the GTI, it uses a mixture of turbocharged and supercharged technology. The aim is to get maximum economy whilst at low speeds and to give good performance when you need it.
@skyline: i'll check and correct the link once i get home. Youtube banned in office thats why i couldn't check if link is working or not
TWIN CHARGING / TWIN CHARGED !!
Love the concept but man its way to expensive at not economically feasible for the output. Single Supercharger with other parts or a Twin Turbo with other parts in the same money range can arrange better results ... but for the sake of it the word itself (Twincharged) attracts alot of attention!
how bout the new supercar with both supercharger and turbocharger with more than 1100bhp....check the link

i had the same question in my mind for a while!
