For starting photography, you shouldn't get a 70D. That's basically like learning to drive on a complicated Range Rover rather than a Cultus.
In my opinion, you should save your money, and buy a Canon 600D, or a 700D(preferably because it's newer). Learning to shoot properly, and learning all the little things you can do in the Manual mode. And take my word. The 700D is almost a 70D, and as a newbie, you realistically won't use those advanced features for a long time.
The cameras from the XXX(3 digit) lineup are made for people who want to start at photography. The 700D bridges the gap between the entry-level and the professional stuff. It's basically a perfect match for you because you have money to spend and you don't want the low end stuff.
In my opinion, get that with a XX-135 lens, along with a prime lens fixed at 50mm. The prime is a must. You'll learn why when you compare it to a standard zoom lens.
Stay away from Nikon. Picture quality difference is very negligible. And you can never notice. And the major difference is the accessories. Nikon has way expensive stuff(sort of a ripoff). Like the Canon prime lens(f1.8) is available for 8k, whilst the Nikon equivalent is for 20k. Not worth it.
