I friend of mine told last night he had a AC job on his ride. The technician replaced compressor and other stuff with kabli parts and things are working now. One thing he told me that the compressor he got replaced was of some other car and it was not operating - the clutch was not enganging at all - he said that the mechanic said this compressor needs 12 Amp to run whereas you cars wiring has a setup for 9 Amp compressor so he hooked a Cutout ( Relay ) with the compressor and compressor started working.

My question: based on relays working principal How is it possible that a relay step up a current value of 9 amp to 12 amps. Is it even possible

they look like usual R134a ports, Please find their plastic caps, if you connect the manifold gauges to these dirty couplers, specially the low side one you may cause that debris to get stuck in the schrader valve and cause a permanent leak.

I noticed the low-side cap missing. Don't know how Im going to clean and cover it but I know I have to. The high-side cap is in place, and so the clean look.
Got gauges and couplers today. Will hook up tomorrow and post whatever happens. Got an r22 home split-unit that is also giving trouble so hopefully it'll be useful for that too.
I'm thinking of investing in an HFC/CFC leak detector. Its cheap compared to the pro stuff. Its chinese made (like everything else). Good investment?

best to find some UV dye - add dye with some refrigerant and the leaks pops out immediately under some black light.

sounds like a fishy story.. is your freind sure that was the case? the compressor clutch magnet coil usually has an impedance between 2 to 4 ohms - that means somewhere around 3 to 7 amps..

Did the tech also adjust the clutch gap?

Mazeed bat ka nai pta clutch gap adjust kia ya nahi bs usne itna he btaya mjy or wahi mjsy hazam nai ho rha tha so i asked... Lol

I have a situation here My ride Hyundai Santro's AC clutch is acting all weird. The one second it engages and the other second it disengages. This cycle continues Until it doesn't engage any more. And then there comes a time where it engages like a perfect clutch with no problem at all.

First i thought it has to do something with external weather temperatures. But i had to rule that out as it was not engaging at 9 a.m morning and then at 3 p.m - top peak of high temperature - it engaged and worked like nothing happened. What can be the problem??

AOA, sir i have one question.. i brought a daewoo 1.5l with (gm15mf) engine and the a/c setup was installed back then, so now iam curious that whether that compressor will work or not but i dont know how to check it need your guidance about how should i check it.
1 year back car got heating problems so i removed condenser grill infront of radiator and noticed that all wiring grips were removed from compressor. do i need to take pictures of it? i can even remove compressor from the engine, road sides are suggesting to put in a toyota duet a/c compressor but iam confused that whether it will work or not with this system.

if i have a workshop manual of that compressor i can even dis assemble this compressor, im a beginner type of mechanic now thanks to old cars...

that car used a harrisson compressor - a very HD unit, it also did not use a TXV but utilises an orifice tube in the liquid line, Its dryer - which is also called accumulator is the huge item on the suction line.

The AC compressor trips from the low side temperature and also pressure switches. It has no thermostatic device on the evaporator. Meaning that if the AC is functioning it will be at maximum cooling performance - because its a fixed flow system unlike a TXV which can regulate the flow.

The good news is that the orifice tube is cheaper than a TXV, the bad news is that the accumulator is a bit hard to find in Pakistan - it also has odd connections on it - someone who has worked on old chevy caprice AC will know how to take it apart. Other mechanics can destroy the couplers.

I checked the belt again it has some sticky lubricant and then i saw stains of grease on inner body wall.

Hence, concluded i have just got "jugarred" by my a.c wala. I remember me mentioning the belt noise to him and i think that D*** applied grease on the belt to quite it down. And yes since then i am having this issue....
(I am really pissed ATM Gallyaan nikalny ka dil kr rha hai uss **** ke bachy ko)

Bhai what should i do know? Clean the pully with 1:1 kerosene and petrol mix and get a new belt?

Petroleum are hard on it use De-greaser it costs 250 available by name of engine cleaner

I have an engine degreaser lying around its kind of a foam - on bottle it says engine degreaser. I should use it may be.

Yes you can use it. Spray or apply let it sit for five minutes and then water wash. Repeat of necessary

yes i ve seen somewhere harrisson written on it and made in ohio state. and i think this is an old school type of a/c system if accumulator is in good condition then it can works otherwise it wont.
bro if the compressor turns out to be faulty then which other car's compressor can work with this system?

old chevy caprice is really hard to find now in pak so their specific mechanics, it means that we can't repair compressor only have to replace it with the old kabli one. and thanks for warning that if i ever mess with this thing will only end up in ruins.

and i cannot check it bare handed need to put in refrigerant to check it?

that compressor is a variable load type, quite a good item, the connections on the back are coupled up to make a manifold, it is classic GM design to have such manifold.

The good part is that such compressors are very strong and long life. You can find them in used items too - I used to see a lot of them in scrap. You will need to get in contact with some AC parts vendor to find the accumulator. Its not a very unique item. You might need to get it from dubai - nearly all old GM cars have the same thing.

The connections that are damaged by AC mechanics are the ones on the accumulator and condenser too.

The condenser on your car looks like a home AC condenser, its a tube type also made by Harrison USA - while being very good in performance - it is quite expensive and also easily clogs up with dirt from the outside due to very fine fins.
