@autophile the car lacks compound! compound will add depth and clarity and at the sametime smoothen it out if there is a rough layer on top which can be felt while waxing or just by running ur hand over the body of the car! i dont think so claying will be that effective compared to compound! although claying does remove stuff like oxidation etc etc but it isnt as abrasive as having compound polish done on the whole car followed by a coat of wax!

Bro just a lil correction... Compound would never add depth, and clay would never remove oxidation. Compound would leave a slight haze called compounding haze, so you need to polish your car to get rid of that and to add depth, Wax comes after polishing to protect the freshly prepared paint work..
Clay goes at the first place and its sole purpose is to strip clean the paintwork making it ready to be treated/waxed/polished. Because you dont wanna let the embedded dust/road grime/ road tar etc to be rubbed against your paint while compounding / polishing.
That roughness which you feel on the paint would be cured by claying as usually the roughness you feel is created by some paint overspray / some enviromental release / riad grime etc.. and in very rare cases due to severe oxidation. Apart from the heavy oxidation roughness, the solution for smoothening the paint is not compound. But unfortunately the general public here in Pak recommend and believe that all the solutions for car paint is by compounding.

                        I had a customer coming in for getting his ride compound and polished. Upon his arrival after washing his car, it was analysed that the whole car had overspray on it as the car was left at a workshop for some mechanical work and cars parked next to it were being painted. .  Now the customer's issue was resolved by just claying and waxing the car. Whereas he came for a full paint treatment job as the workshop guy suggested him "K aap gari compound karwa lein, yeh masla theek ho jayay ga"

You got that right bro, But you know i never wax in such a way that its not visible. I really need to see it applied on the panel to make me feel it doing the right way... Thin but visible.

bro claying cannot remove that faded type color look from the paint it can clean it for u it can remove dirt,oxidation,overspray etc but it cant bring in that crystal clear mirror finish which compound can do! compound gives a fresh look to the paint like totally revived no matt look finishes or anything

I think detailing a Mehran is the hardest thing as it takes a lot of effort to get good results. Anyways this soapdish I purchased in Mar 2013 as a second car for local duty had been standing and gathering dust mostly and it was driven around 3,000 kms in two years. It was just given a splash of water when washing the porch and my little son wiped off with peela kapra. Sometimes I took it to my office and get it washed with F1 shampoo.

The car was extensively used as a daily runner and had three trips of Faisalabad between Jan to end April. It was never polished or waxed.

Today it also did not get any claying or waxing as both these products I have yet to procure

Here are the steps and products I used:

1. Splash water to remove dust
2. Poured a few drops of Chemical Guys Citrus Wash and Gloss and plain water one bucket and in another plain water
3. Dipped the mitt in shampoo and wiped it over the body starting from the roof
4. Rinsed the mitt in plain water bucket and then again dipped in shampoo bucket and cleaned panel by panel
5. Rinsed off shampoo with hose. Chemical Guys Citrus Wash and Gloss left a nice clean and shining surface. (H)
6. Used Meguiar's Water Magnet towel to wipe of the water. What a treat. Everyone must have this towel. :):)
7. Then I decided to experiment and used Meguiar's quick detailer. Voila it started enhancing reflections.
8. Cleaned the interior with Meguiar's Quick Interior Detalier and sealed it with Meg's Ultimate Protecant. It was hard.o
9. Used Meguiar's Endurance Tire Gel on tires and they looked wet black and shining. It's a must have product. Not only it gives black velvet look to tires but it also makes them almost waterproof. Water does not stay on tire walls so no spotting or staining occurs and tires remain clean even after if you drive through rain water or through an overflowing gutter water

Dear brother, you said about the roughness felt while waxing or by running hand on car, to be cured by compound. Thats what i was referring to be cleared out by the claying process, prior to be compounded. Eliminate the roughness felt by sliding hand by clay and then to make it crystal clear Compound the car and then polish it.

I can see few brothers, calling wash and wax sessions "Detailing". If not all, atleast it should have some of the things done from the above mentioned definition. Be it wheels , freeing up the monograms from salt deposits, cleaning the door trims, window channels etc.
Just waxing is not detailing. Get into the details to call it detailing, MASHALLAH the excitement of each member i can see here made me write this, plz dont take me wrong....[/B][/B][/B][/B]

Audi A4 Detailed.

Exterior : Washed / Clayed / Washed / Abrasive Polish / Sealant. Front grill chrome + Monograms + Silencer Tips Polished. All plastic trims dressed.
Rims : Cleaned inside out with dedicated wheel cleaner
Interior : Dashboard + AC Vents + Doors cleaned with APC then dressed with matt interior protectant / Leather seats cleaned with Leather cleaner & nourished with leather feed spray / floor matting / foot mats / headliner cleaned with dedicated fabric cleaners / Accelarator & Brake pedals + seat belts +speaker board cleaned with APC.

I meant to say its visible only at a certain angle, leaving a pattern... So when you see that straight up, you wouldn't be able to notice it much but as you tilt the angle and watch it one eye, you see the oily pattern.. Thats what I am talking about The most challenging wax in application that I applied was Dodo Juice supernatural wax v2 that does not leave ANY pattern so you have to trust the wax that its going going going... Next day the looks confirmed I applied it

I personally have found layering does help in better looks (than 1 layer) and that it gives the peace of mind that incase an area was missed in the first layer (or that area did not bond well upon removing), chances are less that I'll miss it second time too.. When doing customer cars, I prefer to use products with least curing times that allow quick layering..

A brand new car has nook and corner already clean and you don't have to 'restore' anything. That's why I think wash, wax, quick detailer spray application is considered detailing for a new car.

For the clay, warm some water (not hot but in between warm and hot so that you can bear its heat), wrap the clay in a plastic bag and place it in the warm water.. See if it softens up and rub it in so that most of the portions can get the head.. Its a 50-50 chance though. If those spots can be felt higher than paint surface, the clay may remove them. If not, then use a compound for spot removal.

For wd40 on glass.. Try some strong APC and see if that helps.. Otherwise you'll have to polish them out.

I wouldn't recommend using a compound if you dont have the right knowledge to do it. High chances are that instead of improvement, you may make the situation worse.
What do you intend to achieve with the compound? Remove swirls and scratches? (Just asking to ensure your understanding of the compound). I am not aware of the cosmic compound, but if you're looking to get it done with desi stuff, might as well go to a painter and have him do it. Or go to a pro detailer with machine polisher to sort things out for you.

I want to add depth to the paint work, the surface is smooth but not that shiny. I want to make it shiny, very shiny.

If u tend to do it by hand, buy Meguiars Ultimate Compound..
Follow the session with Ultimate Polish..
