Review of Meguiars Ultimate QD vs DODO Basics of Bling.
I've finally had the chance to compare my favorite qd vs the most common qd available in our market. Both applications were done when I had traveled one way between Islamabad and Peshawar.
Application:
There is no doubt I love the finer mist spray bottle of the BOB rather than the traditional Meguiars bottle. I actually poured my UQD in a fine spray bottle to get better coverage of the qd on each panel without wasting the product itself. BOB definitely has the edge when it comes to application thanks to the great bottle they have.
Removal:
Having said that, the UQD bounces back when it comes to product removal. I used a thick plush mf towel for the removal and while the UQD took a single wipe on each panel to completely remove the product without leaving any streaking, I had to go 2-3 times on the BOB. I noticed the BOB takes a little longer to completely come off. A single wipe did leave streaking of the product. However, I felt more resistance from the UQD on the mf towel than I did with BOB when I was wiping the product off. But that still wont help BOB leap frogging UQD when it comes to product removal. The resistance was only but a fraction stronger for the UQD but having to spend that extra minute per panel adds up for the whole car. The term "Quick Detail" should be a spray on, wipe off product, not a spray on, wipe off/wipe off/wipe off.
Finish:
1) The finish left by BOB was more slicker than the UQD. The finish from the UQD wasn't bad either. Just that BOB had the edge.
2) The UQD did a great job in darkening the paint. I don't know how long this will hold up for but a 50/50 comparison did reveal the section topped with the UQD to be slightly darker than the section with the sealant+wax combo alone even after 4 hours (More than enough time for a car show to end or a party to finish where you want you car to look great). Now, for some folks, the darker/warmer look would mean a nice finish but in my case where the Blackfire combo had already resulted in the warmer/darker finish to the paint, I would prefer a qd to add a little gloss to the paint. BOB did exactly that and on a personal preference level, I prefer it to UQD.
3) I managed to remove bug splatter on the car front/glasses with BOB. Yeap, BOB isnt just a QD, its a WW and a BTR as well. I tried doing the same with UQD. No luck even after applying the UD 3-4 times to some of the hardened splatters and leaving it there for a minute or 2. I had to use tiny drops of the BOB to get these off.
All in all, I think both are excellent products. I love how the UQD added that nice warm look to the paint. I would think than anyone who prefers to have their paints looking nice and on the DARKER SIDE should stick to the UQD. As for the BOB, those of you who are considering buying it, get it. Not only is it a all in one qd, it also has a nicer bottle with a better spraying nozzle and a great smell. Plus I prefer the green liquid to the murky white LOL.
- I myself don't even have a full bottle of qd. The products tested were samples handed to me by @dynamicallyStatic and another friend. I'm receiving two more QD samples soon to test out on the same car and see how these compare to the two I've already tested.
