First you need to decontaminate the paint. Years of weathering and oxidisation of top layer and industrial fallout can dull the paint. You can clay/scrub the paint to do light cleaning.
Next you will need to polish the paint to minimise the swirls. Once the paint is polished, remaining very light swirls can be covered/filled using Klasse High Gloss Sealant which is very durable and can last up to 1 year. Then you can cover it with wax to protect the sealant. Collinite 845 is extremely durable and easy to use wax, protects from UV and repels water.
Glass coating needs it's own care. Watch this video to learn the difference. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93MmQhNwqxk
I personally would not recommend ceramic or glass coating on a daily driver. It is going to be scratched, scuff marks and other road debris causing minor scratches over time. Removing a coating is extremely difficult and you will need to reapply it after correction, which is more costly than applying the coating for first time.
Your steps should be generally:
- Paint Correction
Get it polished from some detailing shop. But don't leave the paint open to elements for too long.
- Paint Protection
Jet Seal, or Klasse Glaze to protect it from elements and fill the minor swirls.
- Paint Finish
Wax to protect the sealant and form a barrier from daily abuse and UV.
I do not know much about restoring Trim. I am myself looking into it. But generally Gel should work well on porous surfaces.
