So this is a tale of a noob, who somehow got hold of an orbital buffer, a bottle of sealer and glaze, and a tin of Tech wax 2 and didn’t know how to put them together to achieve what he intended to.
Last week, I bought Biloxxi orbital buffer from Metro, and over the last weekend attempted many things collectively for the first time like two-stage waxing, using sealer & glaze, using an orbital buffer, and using a water spray gun producing 8 different types of discharge patterns.
Overall, it was an interesting experience but was not able to completely benefit from the buffer. Started with S&G and applied it using a foam applicator on the roof. Then using Type I cover, tried to buff it but upon contact, it immediately removed the substance from surface splattering the yellowish residue all around before any rubbing could take its effect. While I completed on panel doing this, the electricity went off so I did the entire S&G manually.
Without allowing any time for “curing” (I am not sure it’s mandatory or not), applied the coat of Tech Wax on the entire car. Waited for the haze. Then using Type II cover, attempted to remove the wax…but it loaded up with wax as soon as two or three panels were done. Then it began to leave a lot of residue behind which firmly adhered to the surface and was difficult (relatively) to remove by hand. After this the buffer could do minimal removal either frequently stalling or just slipping over the surface. The picture (of Type 2) was taken after the job.
Now please suggest where I went wrong.
Secondly, I have read on international forums, that application of wax (or anything similar for that matter) is done using foam bonnet which is not provided with this machine.
Third, when I applied the S&G and then went on with the buffer, I felt that the film is too dry to be buffed (or may be buffing requires more liquid on the surface than doing it manually).
Fourth, after doing S&G (Stage I) completely, can we apply the wax immediately (whether carnauba or synthetic) after removal or some time is allowed for curing between the two stages?
