As far as using abrasives goes, the point stands true: The cutting power is rotary>DA>hand application. And yes the time and pressure are both crucial for abrasives. The same compound can actually be used to remove the haze that it left behind when used with a different tool or a diffferent pressure. Also if you are using a tool, like a rotary or a DA, the pad that you would be using is also vital.
As far as hand application goes, i usually recommend microfiber pads. These are ideal as they dont leave behind new swirls, slightly enhance the ability to cut and run longer , especially if you require hard rubbing over tough swirls or hard paint.
The civic 07+ has a very soft paint though, you can get swirls just by having the wrong technique etc. Post the results of before and after and that would help people to maybe guide you abit, though i know youre becoming very very good at this.
