for the record, I am one of those who sent a hate mail to V1.
V1...boss man...couldn't help it as mentioned to you earlier I am a clean car freak and this is the first time I am experiencing a black car...will be going shopping for the main arsenal over the weekend...but still ended up making a dash to the local select to get my hands on anything decent I could find on the afternoon of Eid Day 1. (yup didn't get that gosht hissa till late evening and got a big fat danda from the mrs.)...since you had slapped me on the wrist for using that dry cloth or using the pump, I just had to somehow get rid of that accumulating dust on the car...and just a wet cloth was not an option...
So I got three products which I thought could be part of the arsenal (not the main guns though) (select has limited turtle wax stuff), but one product I had to try on immediately and that was a spray on WAX Enhancer...

So with a water spray bottle in one hand and a damp cloth in the other, first the dust was cleaned off and then panel by panel the Wax enhancer was applied and removed...and the result was pretty good...ofcourse a lot of comedy of errors happened as it was my first self buffing and wiping job including getting up after spending quite sometime in a KHUDDI position and realizing that you can't get up and when you finally do get up (after enough noises coming from various parts of the body that would put a 3 year non serviced car to shame) and then realizing that now that you are standing, you can't go back into that khuddi position because your knees are locked and you've left your calves (not the qurbani kind but the ones you walk on) a mile down below...
Not to mention that once a side was done, a gentleman efficiently walked in with a whole bale of crushed hay (cow meal) and before one could say holy crap, there were a gazellion strands of loose dried grass in the atmosphere all floating gently towards my nice and gleaming hard worked upon surface....i have never shouted so rudely and loudly on a stranger before...
Infact in the reflection you can actually see that hay all over the ground...

Now I can stop here and let everyone admire as to how brilliantly I brought out the mirror like surface with my first self detailing (sorta detailing) job but no...I have to point out the mistakes I made (newbie ones ofcourse)...
As pointed out in the wonderful 'diamond in the rough' post by V1 (I wish it would have been posted a couple of hours earlier)...I spent 70% of the time on one side and 30% on the other which means my cleaning up wasn't that great on the other side (this I noticed later when I took her out) and I was never able to give it that final wipe. Well I would like to share the blame here...first of all, the light wasn't good on the other side, so I could not actually judge how good or bad a job I was doing (have yet to gain that experience...but now I have some rough idea) plus the danda I was talking about given to me by the mrs for delaying the gosht ka hissa...well came around maghrib when I was working on the other side and trust me it is very hard to wipe the car when you....well you get the idea...and oh by the way I couldn't do the roof, bonnet and the bumpers...had to go get that hissa.
Decided to leave those as it is (by the way for the record, had the car washed and waxed only on Saturday and I did this post wax thingy on Monday) and this product makes a difference, I can see the difference in the panels I worked upon and the other parts which I left out. Furthermore, I got the car cleaned with a wet cloth on Tuesday morning and the car till Wednesday (today) had only collected minor dust...which is good, infact till you touched it, you could not even tell there is dust on it. Ofcourse right now there is quite a bit of dust on it as we covered almost half the city in it this evening.
So lessons learned...and I am looking forward to the actual detailing session soon and it's going to be a 5 stage one...More then my accomplishments, I guess I would be more inclined to share my mistakes, I guess that's how I will learn and maybe others will gain from it as well...but hopefully won't be making any GRAVE ones...don't wanna spoil my ride and wouldn't be initially using any professional tools (as advised by V1) such as the rotor which I don't have the experience of.
Oh and for all newbies like me...please use a MF cloth...I have yet to get my sets, and I know how hard I had to work and yet I could tell that some residue is there (finger print marks and smudges)... I know it's a sin but till MF is procured, I have to use a soft cloth but no more detailing till I get the MF. There is no swirling on the car yet.
