Its too dusty becoz of the cold windy weather since few days...
i can see a layer of dust on my car's graphite grey colour in every morning, but thanks to the waxed slicky surface it doesnt stick to it, it just slips down as i drive down at certain speed;)

your vagueness...thank you for the kind SMS...sorry couldn't reply back my BB's tracking ball got damaged in the morning...so the whole damn thing is just on call and end. Couldn't do the car on Sunday myself (kids had their Annual sports day)...used the rolla and left the goth mobile at home for Mr. Orbital to come and do his job...I had given him instructions of the heavy wax on the hood over the phone...and yes it worked...god knows if they are actually gone or hidden but I couldn't see them anymore. So Jazak allah for your help as usual.

did the top coat as usual on Monday this time again with the detailer...and now I am 100% confirmed that a detailer attracts much less dirt and even the dust that accumulates is of a very fine powdery kind.

However, today is a different story...major problems today...but lemme figure out a few solutions, test out a few hypothesis before I share it.

JazakAllah sir.....yer more than welcome....though I might want to point out at this point.....have you realised what wonders a simple wax can do? I mean think, if you weekly waxed yer ride an kept those swirls an scratches in check.....your ride would be spanking new light years from now....but the key is quality stuff!!!

bhai quality stuff is a broad term, narrow it down a bit. I mean, mothers, turtle ? or meguiars ? i see that u have drifted away from basic products specially the mothers and u even mentioned this in a post few pages before. Kindly give your baseline for quality...

Armor all Ultra shine wax and wash detailer. bought for around PKR 520 from hyper. recommended by @Accord and rightly so as I am pretty happy with it.

Sorry I am answering this for V1...

Broad is actually right and it cannot be narrowed further (IMHO) because the post was on general terms.

Quality is different for different people but safely you can say 'stick' to ones which are 'original' and of reputable brands which are built for performance and detailing connoisseurs rather than price and budget conscious users.

What is the right one? Well...to each his own...what might suit your ride (color, condition, number and type of paint coatings and WORTH OF RIDE plus the result required) and application style might not suit me...one man's all natural carnauba dream can be another man's nightmare. Me for one knows that I will not like handling hard wax...so whatever the quality I'll never go for it.

But anyways a small category level to help you narrow it down

The Snob class (I won't name the brands here...irrelevant for us)
The Elite specialist class (mostly imports) Dodo, Megs, Wolfgang, Pinnacle, to name a few
The generalist performance class Turtle, Mothers, 3M
The detailing Entry level class Speed, Sonax, Armor all,

The budget class - the Kazmics, formulas and yes even my soft 99...

V1's comment on quality product was pointed towards me as he knows I am using a not so cheap but still chinese type product but then he knows about the range which is coming my way.

So bro, logic says that the higher class you'll go for, the better the results...but product plays a key role but so does the applicator and the car it is being applied on. The top four categories (quality categories) will not leave you with any handicap and drawbacks of the product itself if you know what I mean where as the cheap ones in the budget class will....and that is what V1 meant with his statement.

Mr.O bhai, you are the principal of the karachi detailing school, why sorry for standing in for V1 bhai actually u put it really nice, that was the answer i had in my mind. The theory was clear, but what i wanted to ask was whether opting for products you put in the 'generalist performance' class is more than enough for entry level people or not, and you sir, put it quite precisely.

My case is that i am a student, so have to buy all the fancy stuff not from my own pocket, hence, dont want to spend on expensive stuff until i reach a level at which i am able to understand what suits me and not. But, the quality matters, i am good not applying wax to my ride rather than applying a mediocre quality one ... actually i was off to plaza yesterday to get brake pads, roaming around i found a nice shop with a very extensive range of products, mostly turtle's, like turtle ice shampoo, wax, detailer spray and black box etc.... i was about to buy some stuff but i refrained and said to myself to do some more homework first then come shopping.

P.S. when i looked at the detailer spray, the only name i had in my mind was yours and the ride i pictured was that black beauty of yours

Raven you flatter me...i will say I am just a new enthusiast who plans to vomit all my learnings as and when they happen on to this thread so that people who are new like me can benefit from it and also to take some load off the pros...spread the 'pollen' brother.

Another quick tip...all the good waxes especially the daba ones let's say Megs, dodo waghaira waghaira can actually last you a long time as you need to apply less to get a good shine...so your per application cost is actually very low...you may be surprized that a 'daba' can go as long as 3 years (or so I have been told by the chief...but I believe him and it makes sense)...

If I were you, I would invest one time in a good wax, a decent shampoo and a decent detailer....and stick to these three products only for the time being and omit stuff like interior polishes, tire polishes, wheel cleaners, chrome polishes, scratch removers etc etc....

you can for the time being get an Armor all shampoo, Armor all detailer (total around 850 PKR give or take 5%) and you can go for the smaller box of Mother's carnauba which is or around 1300 at hyper or if you want to go cheaper go for turtle Ice which is around 1100...so in both cases you will be under 2100.

however, you will still need MFs...and although the wax and shampoo will last you longer...but the detailer replenishes rather quickly.

Get the regime going with good products and then slowly over time add in the multicoats, the glazes, the cleaners and the add ons etc etc

the flattering is all mine sir i will say that you are getting your objection done pretty well. you sir have gone all the way up and now have begun to understand your ride like the pros and i have to admit your posts are very helpful !

About stuff, yes i understand these things last for some time,as i said, this is not an issue, last time i went to makro i left a mothers carnauba and picked up formula 1 shampoo thinking to take it slow and just treat my 7th gen with shampoo until i learn some more. When disclosed it here, had a bashing from V1 for sparing mothers and choosing F1 kher, the thing is, that money is not an issue, but i dont want to be like those spoiled brats who just gather all the stuff without knowing how to utilize them the best way. now a days i am wasting my F1 wax on engine room and when it is finished, i'll simply start shopping again

the products u outlined are helpful, actually i too had some what similar stuff ... like speed care kit, etc.

interesting thing is usually people dont care that much, saying that it doesn't matters, but my dad's uncle now completely refrains from using the local waxes ...

just another little piece of advice...the better products help you learn better and understand your car better...my understanding went up by miles the day I simply started using a decent shampoo and detailer oh and that APC helped as well.

I remember my guitar learning days...before my first class, my dad bought me a local cheap accoustic saying that start with this, when you'll get better, we'll get a better one...why invest in a 'branded' one when you don't know the ABC of guitars...my instructor insulted me and told me not to show up with that oversized "tissue paper box" if I wanted to really learn how to play...his argument was...agur sahi tone hee nahi suno g a y to samjho g a y kaisay kay kya baja rahey ho...the next day I went and got a Washburn...

In short using mediocre products will give you mediocre results, a bad back and zero learnings...

BTW just realized, we are all such buffoons...we call cars w/o sunroof hard tops...where as Sunroofs only come in hard tops....ever saw a convertable soft top with a sunroof

I sold this car to my friend. A week later i went at his place for combine study To my surprise the car was sparkling. Although I always kept the car nice and tidy but still. I was stunned by seeing my car with so much lashkaaray. I asked him that how did he do that? He said I didnt do that but I called a detailer and he did it. It took him couple of hours. I inquired about what he used. My friend said there was nothing written on the dabbi and he used machine. Here are few pics I shot but it was treat to watch in real. So the real question What to use to keep this shine as it is? Thanks

Been having a disastrous week...as I said in my last post...figuring out the causes and testing some hypothesis to draw conclusions...

yup this is one of my conclusions this week...the wetter the MF is the worse it cleans...atleast where dirt is concerned.

another conclusion that I had come to...terry towel (I have yet to test it) but a nice big one should be incorporated in the detailing process...especially the daily cleaning affair. However, I recommend to cut off the borders before using because these terry towels (also known as 100% cotton towels...and trust me you won't find them in packs of three for 400 Rs. even if they say 100% cotton they will be a blend of polyester...which will screw up your car...a good 100% cotton towel will be pretty expensive)...well the borders...because the thread used to taper off borders may and will not be car friendly and will leave scratches. So safer to cut the borders off and lose a few fibres on the car then to let it gain a couple of scratches...

i haven't done my entire experimentation yet and haven't drawn up complete conclusions and therefore won't be sharing the problem I am having this week...till I am able to figure out the exact causes and a workable solution...
