For those who are wondering which product I am raving about after the Sunday meet..well if you go back two days, I guess was it friday or Saturday when I had listed down the exact product list that I will be using to detail my ride for Sunday's meet. This was given in response to Usman's question of product list for Sunday's GTg...
7 am...
I am standing next to the car with my entire case of arsenal and organizing the products and MFs inorder of usage. The session was planned with Imran Hakro joining in at 8 but since my hose pipe is a little short (I am accumalating detailing products from all over the world but haven't yet procured a larger hose pipe from gizri :P)...so only one car could be washed at a time. So that is why the plan was for me to start at 7 and the time Imran would be here at 8 I would be done with the rinse, I will then park his car in place of mine, so that he could start washing. Sounded like a plan...
Too early to wake up Santa's little helpers on a Sunday (my kids), started the rinse myself...what the hell, damn water pressure is just too low...khair janab...one by one each panel was rinsed, with a separate gold class shampoo solution, washed using multiple brushes and foam the tires, rims and the mud guards and fender shields...back to my two buckets, then put a coat of gold class shampoo on the car using the big foam...rinsed...pressure still too God damn low...car looking nice...hmmm but still needed more...2nd coat of shampoo was put on...rinsed again...
I must say I was thoroghly impressed. Last week I had applied Megs NXT synthetic and then had topped it with Megs Gold Class Carnauba...my first experience with these products...and bhai logo for the first time this sunday I saw what proper beading looks like...the Gold Class had survived...and beautifully...
You would be amazed how quickly I was able to dry the car...just placed my MF drying towel on the lightly wet parts (no heavy wet parts remained on the body after two minutes of rinse)...patted...and a single wipe of clean MF...and voila...car squeaky clean and dry...
Car was gleaming in all glory...oh yaar...isee pay detailer marlon to bhee chaley ga...this got me even more to excited to play with the products I had recently procured...
was out of cigs, so took the rolla out and got me refills...came back...the goth was still shining...
gave her a big orange wipe...hmmm...used two MFs...one to apply....one to wipe off...okay now this time I found the product very easy to take off in terms of wet residue left...none was left after single wipes...brilliant but I was facing resistance over the surface...so this told me that I was slightly cleaning off the old wax as well....not bad...so I think big orange does really cleanse on a mild level...
during my big Orange wipe...I realized Imran hadn't called me...I was expecting his call in the morning for the directions to my place...and then checked the time...its 10am!!! holy crap I had spent 3 hours in having a bubble bath with the goth, smoking ciggs and then doing the big orange wipe...
Gave a call to Imran...talked to him for the first time...he was actually waiting for my call...and I was waiting for his...result he started detailing on his own at his place...(well now that I know him he probably must have started detailing at 8:00 am and 05 seconds...must have waited only 5 seconds for my call...nothing can keep this man away from his car for long:D)
So it was back to detailing on my own...calculated remaining time...
kya karna hai...thora clear coat safe rubbing compound...aur phir aik single coat hee to wax ka karna hai...final wipe...oh jee max 2 hours...and then interior so half an hour more...oh goody goody, I'll be done by 12:30...sukoon say shower, phir brunch and then head to the office by 2...and then set eveything up for the arrival of guys as 3:30...
very happy with my self...I took out Megs clear coat safe rubbing compound...took out an MF applicator pad and a brand new Sonax MF (jee haan mein Friday ko ja kar aik aur MF lay kar aya hoon unfortunately Sonax ka...because I did not have any for taking off the compound...was planning to use a 100% cotton towel but they have failed miserably...plus didn't want to use the large MF wipe cloths on compound)....
did the compound treatment to where I thought most of swirl problems happen...the hood, the top side of fenders from front to back including the roof frame (but not the roof panel), the boot (all of it including the number plate portion), front bumper portions and ofcourse specific hairline scratches around the body were also attended to...
the compound was max applied to a 2x2 area, and then wiped off and buffed to a shine before moving to a new section.
PRODUCT REVIEW MEGS RUBBING COMPOUND
- You can tell paint is being cleansed...brings out a shine...and yes does remove light swirls...
- Scratches...well....ummmmmm....you really have to work hard even on the light ones...I managed to (Despite several applications) lighten them and not remove them. I could see the scratches growing lighter and lighter...so each scratch needs to be worked on extensively...I did not have the time on my side...so I decided to settle with only swirl removal...
Overall...tough product to handle which is surprising because it is a formula made for hand application only. I was expecting it to atleast rub on and off easily which it doesn't. I was not expecting miracles (after seeing the effort Aamir had put on Jaggi's ride) from a product which is not abrasive...so it delivered on that part....
Took me 1.5 hours to do the panels that I discussed...and qasm say circular motion application kay 5 minute mein cheekhain nikal gaee theen...as I said the product application is much more tougher then any paste wax because it dries very quickly.
Would I use it again...YES till the time I do not require an abrasive product. I will however, use a better applicator...
and btw...first section I am doing...and I drop that brand new MF in dirty water...lo kar lo baat...specially is kay liyay yeh mathee product lee thee (Sonax MF) aur wohi istemal na hoa...had to use a zwipes...
Back to detailing...
Okay 11:30....now I am actually behind my schedule...took the product of the day...looked at the bottle, smelled the product...hmmm..smelled like vanilla and a mix of carnauba...time clicking fast...but still no panic...arey yaar...aik hee to coat karna hai..Usman nay specifically kaha hai...with this...no multi coating, no glazing...aur application bhee straight lines mein...no circular motion...no hazing period...just apply and remove...arey bhai bus 40 minutes...mein I'll be done...BOY WAS I WRONG!!!
3M PERFORMANCE FINISH REVIEW...
arey bhaiyon...mistake number one happened even before I had opened the bottle...I chose an MF applicator pad....
oh yaar...mein mur gaya...is product ko laganey aur utarney mein...
- This is a very very very very very very rich product...it has to be spread finely...the damn MF pad...does not spread it soaks and it absorbs...oh yaar...itna uneven application mein nay kabhee nahi kya zindagi mein....and I just could not spread this product. with this pad I could not even tell kay mein thick layering kar raha hoon kay thin...
- Uneven pressure was also too much...I couldn't control the pressure with the MF pad...so again cause of bad application
Thank God I listened to V1...I had called him up as I had seen a tutorial video which instructed to apply this product in straight lines vs. circular...so I had called Usman up to confirm...he also validated this with the reason...kay circular motion is when you are taking it off with a machine...by hand you'll die wiping it off if you apply in circle.....THANK GOD I listened to him...
Acha janab...somehow boot to mairee 2 minute mein hogaee thee...but as I progressed, I realized that taking off this product is a living nightmare...yaar...aik to my application was un even plus you have to take this product off moist...oh mein nay sub kuch try kar liya straight wipe, ulta wipe, terha wipe aur buffing motion...mugar sala yeh product streaks pay streaks chorey...utar kay hee na dey...dark spots pay dark spots....khair janab roltay roltay mein nay back, roof, roof frame and top of fenders to kar liyay...then came the dreaded hood....
45 minutes is what I spent in doing that hood...mut pohchain kay kya haal hoa...kitnee saree buffing karnee paree....and on top of that I CREATED TONS OF SCRATCHES IN MY WAX COAT...why BECAUSE I MADE THE MOST BASIC OF MISTAKES...and I think this is the second time I have done it...I didn't remove the instruction/origination tag of the MF....in my buffing...the tag side had come up and had put long long scratches on the hood (like the ones you get on dry skin)....1:00 pm...both sides of the car left, bumpers left, I can't handle the damn product...and I have messed up my hood...ON THE DAY OF THE GTG :o Any other day I would have taken my time...but today I was on a deadline....
Khair...ub job complete bhee karna hai...scratches mask bhee karney hain...A second coat of 3M was reluctantly applied and buffed to the hood...a lot of anomalies were still there, but I decided to take care of in the detailer phase because I was at the stage where more application or buffing would have caused more damage then correction....
Did the remaining car in 40 minutes...for the first time I did not get the joy of seeing the shine come out from underneath the hazed wax...woh feel hee nahi aarahee thee kay mein wax kar raha hoon...baar baar Usman yaad araha tha...keh ustad jee kithay phasa diya...and I was like why didn't he tell me that I was playing with fire and not only one but two...both difficult products applied for the first time and on the same day and that too with a time limit...and then I understood...this was the biggest learning he could actually give me...the toughest of jobs with a time limit...ideal pressure cooker test....
Khair jaisey taisey I did the whole car...not happy at all with the results and the whole application and by now totally relying on the detailer to save my izzat at the GTG...
2:30 the turtle black detailer was pulled out, I loved this product...it took me 15 minutes to complete the final wipe down with this product....very easy to apply and very easy to dry (didn't even need two MFs)...anamolies were all hidden easily....I liked this better than the MEGS ultimate quick wax detailer I used last week...less quantity used and easy to handle...however, it is BLACK and in color too in terms of liquid...the MF turned all black...so do not try on any other car but black...duh!
2:45 quick tire foam on the tires...and at 2:47 I was in for that shower....3:25 I was thankfully at office to receive the guests...
No time for interior...but thank God I had done a detailed interior session last week with Megs...so my interior was spot on...
So from 7 in the morning to 2:47 pm... is the time it took me to detail my car on Sunday...exhausted and no time to admire the car or to inspect it or to even reboot my mind I had reached the GTG...frustrated but most of it were my mistakes...I mean come on MF tag....jeez...bachey walee mistake....and the MF applicator pad for applying...against all rules of engagement...
i was in the GTG...and I told Usman about my experience with 3M...he laughed and as I had deduced earlier he told me that I should have realized by some hints he had given me that I am using a difficult product...and plus it is recommended with a machine...
he then asked me if I liked it over gold class and NXT and I said yes and no
Usman was a little taken a back at this...basically at the no...and asked me to explain...
I said that the yes was because of the fact that one product gave me the effect of two...so good...and I said no because in over 3 hours, I could have easily done two coats of NXT and Gold Class and would have enjoyed my wipes and smoked inbetween and done the interior and would have actually finished off earlier without any imperfections...
Usman didn't comment on this much...I could tell by his expression that performance finish ka response kuch pasand nahi aya meree taraf say...
But Janab...when I went to the photo location...and I saw the car in the open space...I was shocked...I have never seen the Goth looking like this before...you guys have seen the result...
There is the mirror look...and then there is the depth look...we all know those...but there is a third look...a look which I was always looking for, wishing for and didn't know you could do it to an ordinary car... the look of chrome wrapped in a thin layer of gel paper....it's not like a mirror and depth combo it is something more...it's like as if the paint is ALIVE...and is intellectually interacting with light...as if the car itself is controlling the intensity of absorbing and reflecting light...the edges are giving out glares like diamond sparkles...you know like the effects in dish wash bar ads...in darkness it is giving a black glow...yes a black glow...as if the whole car is a black hole...I mean I can sit here and write on this product the whole day...I am so much in love with it...
In short...I call this look "EXOTIC'... it is the look found on Ferrari, Masaratti, lambo waghaira waghaira (I am not saying I am in that league...Just the bling feel)...it truly has turned the r18 into an exotic...wow...
I gave a call to Usman later and took my 'NO' back...
The next day...the 3M really bonded with the car and today it has completely cured...the office driver in his passion gave it a dry MF wipe today without my knowledge and I instead of giving him hell...just ended up admiring how gorgeous the goth is looking in the sun...haan haan woh bonnet pay imperfections hain...but those were my mistakes completely.
Would I try this product again...If I had my way I would have only used this product from now on...IRRESPECTIVE OF HOW HARD IT IS TO CONTROL....by the way this close to 4 hour session with the 3M performance finish has really given me a great understanding of this product and I believe I can control it the next time I use...it because by the time I had completed the car...I was becoming its DADDY
even with that manhoos MF pad...
I am banging my head on the wall for ordering stuff n waxes from US, I could have gotten a good MEGs or PC DA in that price with tons of pads...I could have gotten a couple of more bottles of this product (its cheaper than gold class) instead of all the stuff I got from Dubai...
DA or not...next week its back to Gold Class and NXT...after that I am going for a sponge applicator...and I am applying 3M performance finish again...agur maheenay mein do dafa nahi to kum uz kum one time to yeh product apply ho gee chahey woh haath say hee kyon na ho aur mujhay phir 4 ghantey ka aik coat hee kyon na karna parey...
Final Final Verdict...For me atleast...I don't know how any other product (even those which I have ordered and are enroute) can top this...cause unlike U2 and bono...I have just found what I had been looking for
Thanks for bearing with me...VIVA LE V1
