Car makers fuel efficiency has not improved much?

Hi everyone! I started this thread about Fuel efficiency. Here is what they were saying.

Gains in gas mileage in cars are being somewhat overstated, as reported by a study recently authored by an MIT economist. Modern engines are far better, but vehicles are much heavier and more powerful, throwing increases in efficiency out the window. In this article Study from MIT finds fuel efficiency has not improved much by Sam Hoober they found out most car businesses use fuel efficiency as part of their general marketing plans. However, a recently launched study by an MIT economist found that vehicles have not been gaining as much fuel economy as commercials would have us believe.

So how about your car performance?

for that CAFE laws are being implementing now a days , secondly where as the fuel economy is concerned you know that ILSAC is working such grades of engine oils which can deliver up to 9 % fuel economy as compare to conventional 20W50 grade oils. In this regards SK ZIC has been providing ILSAC GF-5 graded oils to obtain maximum fuel economy and one should use such kind of lub oils in there vehicles

Here fuel efficiency has remained same. Corollas used to do 12km/lit 20 years ago & are still doing tt today

the use of old engine technologies ( VVTi took atleast 8 years to come to pakistan ) ,+ low quality lube oils in pak is IMO the prime factor,,

also id like to point out the road conditions in pakistan are such that your tires almost always has a puncture and pressures are not optimum ( 29, 30psi ) ,, that also reduces mileage

last month , i drove the excellent toyota premio 1.8VVti ( AT ) , the digital counter showed a mean of 15.6 km/L mileage,,, thats coming from a 1.8 ,, i doubt our local cars can do that much ?

R u sure, that PREMIO 1.8 (AT) can give you 15.6km/litre in city drive ??

Yes i Agree. I use to have a Corolla 82 that we bought when it was just 70k driven and it was easily doing 16KMPL on highway and new 2011 still its still around this avg though that was a carby.

Examples

Mehran - Approx 12-13km/l ... Kei (manual) - Approx 16-18km/l
Old City 2002 - 12-13km/l ... New City 2012 - 16-18km/l

Both are first hand experiences, with either own car or a friends car

Friends owning the XLi/GLI claim the same figures. Whereas co-workers given Altos are crying about crappy fuel averages, barely 10km/l. Owners of Vitz' however are quite happy getting 15km/l on their autos.

The newer EFIs are definitely better at fuel economy
