Car slips when i apply brakes

Model 2007
Tyres: dunlop Lemans 470 (good condition)

Whenever i apply brakes over 50 kms/hr, my car skids from front wheels. it seems that front wheel become jam after pressing brake pedal.

i went to mechanic. he checked the car and informed that the brake pads / shoes are fine but need cleaning. he serviced brakes of all four wheels and also perform bleeding of brake oil. even then the problem is not resolved.

i have noticed that the rear brake shoes are bit worn / effected by wear.

will the replacement of rear brake shoes increase the braking of car????
or there is some other problem?

It happens when you brake hard. The lack of ABS jams the wheels and steering altogether. Check your tyres too cuz 50kph is not high if you brake normally.

I might be wrong on this, but the rear brakes are the ones that bite first. If your rear drums are worn, the front is doing most of the heavy braking, and it has the tendency to lock up. Our camry has front disc, rear drums, and the drums were worn, so the front discs would lock up... not often, but it would happen.

Get your rear drums adjusted and/or replaced. The problem should at least go away a bit, if not completely.

I also had same problem with my Alto. Well there are some issues which we call 'paidaishi masaail' which comes from factory with these suzuki cars. What I would recommend is:

1. Regularly check air pressure of the tyres.
2. Regularly get the tyres rotated (front at the back, back at the front).
3. Get your disc pads cleaned and your discs levelled. (go to a kharadia and ask him k "tool laga do") because of this, sometimes one of your wheels jam while braking.
4. I suppose your tyres are good, but sometimes, when tyres get hard enough, they lose their grip. The rubber might seem perfect from the outside, but there is not grip. This could also be one of the reason. Get it checked too. Or try to see whether your tyres leave a mark on the road when they screech or not. If they don't it means woh sookhi screech mar rahay hain.

These are some simple measures. Wont take much of your time. But might give some positive results.

Get brake Cyl Checked of Rear wheels and front pistons of front wheel...if they are jammed.....they can cause this

Servicing rear breaks including replacing the brake shoes (if necessary), tool the drum (if surface is uneven or grooved), parking brake adjustment etc will give you what you want.

and one more thing when you get the brake system bleed, use the cross sequence meaning
1. R rear wheel
2. L front wheel
3. L Rear wheel
4. R front wheel

this will help too.

Also do the screetchee test for the tyres

yes if ur rear drums are not working properly then all the load will b on discs and that will result in slips and possibly loss of control. get it fixed asap

I have the same problem with my alto 2000. I changed my rear brake pads and machined rear drums also but the problem still persists. I conclude these defects are "by birth" in these suzuki cars.

by adjusting rear brakes the problem can be solved BUT rear brakes of ALTO are not adjustable. they r auto

keep in mind 99% of our roads are "glazed" & are usually covered with fine grit & oil too, hence you don't get the required traction whatever tyre you use or how good is your braking system.

theres lots of reasons why your car could skid including excessive braking (dont expect a miraculous dead stop within a second), worn tires, bad alignment/camber, incorrect tire pressure, worn brake pads, defective drums/brake rotors, front brake pistons/pins that lock up and/or release unevenly, uneven weight distribution in car (eg. excessive vehicle height by inserting rear shocks' spacers), bad road/wet road/ dusty road etc etc etc....

and the list goes on

Its a tire related problem. Remember, the brakes don't stop a car, the tires do

Get their alignment checked and look at their treads. Move them front to back or look for replacements

Its a manufacturing fault in Alto ... no matter what you do it will remain the same ...

well my alto has good brakes... But sometimes they become slugish n ineffective. My solution is a simple drift/slide on any corner...
As for the OP, bro make sure your brake fluid level is as required, get the front pads serviced and the rear drums aswell. Get the rear brakes adjusted, the handbrake will become hard and viola, your problem is solved! If not, then change the tyres.
