I have Corolla (previous model) and it doesn't have any Tracker, Insurance, GSM alarm, Chor switch or anything for that matter. I park my car outside home all the time and so far nothing has happened thanks to Allah
I think the only way to protect your car in enclosed space like home, garage e.t.c is to use RFID based system. Although nothing can give 100% protection but I guess after reading all replies and going through this system in my head, this seems to be the most effective although a little expensive.

It's simple
You will have a tag connected to your car for e.g. on bumper or any other location. No need to go hi-fi and simply stick it on your car using tape.

Then you will have an RFID reader somewhere near (probably inside a locked room). One antenna will be connected to that reader which will be facing the tag. The reader itself will be connected to a computer.
Let's say at 9pm you turn on all the devices. Now the computer will tell reader to take reading of tag every 1 second. If for any reason reading is not taken then turn on alarm which could be a simple wav file on your PC blasted through the connected speakers.
So basically as soon as the car moves or a thief tries to remove tag or thief tries to remove antenna, the reader will be unable to take reading and hence alarm will go off.
But this is primary function. What if there is no electricity? Well you will have to use UPS then. But what if the computer or reader itself is down due to some malfunction? Well your PC will also be sending alert to remote hosting server about last time reading taken. And on your hosting server you can have a simple PHP cron job checking if it has been more than 5 seconds since last reading came? If yes then send an alert through twitter which you will receive on your mobile.

I have skipped minute technical details but this is the whole idea.

the best remedy that i came up with is get a big guard dog... it will atleast give you a warning call incase someone wants to make an attempt... plus people will think atleast twice before even planning the theft...

Yesterday my uncle altis stolen from his house in dha z block.
The car was locked in house and they were sleeping .At 7 o clock in morning the car was stolen.

Keep buying the cheap substandard sh1* and you might as well offer your money on a plate to the thieves. I was in Canada a few weeks back and went to a Toyota dealership to buy a Corolla 2012. It had an immobilizer, dual airbags, side curtains, mud flaps, cruise control, CD player, bluetooth, all floor mats (regular as well as winter), a rubber tray for the truck (trunk protector is a rubber mat shaped as the floor of the trunk with raised edges so if you spill anything it stays in the tray), rear bumper protector (a plastic strip that protects the paint of the rear bumper as you pull out things from the trunk..a heavy suitcase etc. The car had tons of bells and whistles and guess what??? the price we paid was less than Can $16000!!!

If Altis here gets stolen so frequently the customers should stop buying it and the company would have to introduce/offer the immobilizer and other features that are available. It is no rocket science. Till such time we continue to line up and even pay an extra to buy their substandard cars why would they bother producing something better?

I have sold my Xli 2010 and bought a new city yesterday, the reason only was thieves are not letting it go, The mostly stolen vehicle now a days is Corolla in Islamabad, don't know about other cities, it's being stolen more than Mehran's.
The reason which i knew from nearest police station was Corollas are being smuggled to Afghanistan and there they get registered and legal.
That is the only reason i had to sell it and shift to Honda City, this is really sad, but this was the only reason i had to sell my Corolla !!

Yesterday morning, my cousin's almost new gli got stolen for his own garage. The garage was properly locked and the car had steering lock and tracker installed. The thieves (3 or 4 assumptions) jumped in from garage's gate. They entered the car by breaking the rear window and chopped the steering lock then the gate lock.

At 6:30 am, the tracker company called saying that ur car is crossing Sagian Pull so they have turned off the car. In shock he checked the garage for his car then called 1 5 and motorway police. After half an hour the tracker company called saying that they have stopped receiving signals from ur car.

The thing is, my cousin's mother was awake that time but she did not hear a sound. How were the thieves able to bypass the tracker? If tracker is so easily bypassed then whats the use of tracker? One thing to note that he has two more cars (alto and cultus) with alarm systems, did thieves aim for big car or car without alarm system?

This means that how much so ever you try to protect your car with tracker, steering lock, your car is not safe, even inside your own house.

The worst part was only the 50% of the car was insured that mean he would get only 8 lacs back.

I am a bit worried because i also have the new model corolla with tracker and fully insured. I would really like if someone could give me suggestion regarding his big loss, like this type of event ever happened before and was the car recovered. Please if someone can help or give information regarding this type of event please don't hesitate. Is there any chances of his car being recovered and who should he contact?

On 04-09-2012, I got a call from tracker company at 5:26 am saying that the battery of my car has been disconnected, i was sleeping, got up and rushed towards my car porch, car was not there and main gate was open .. I called the tracker company back they said that the tracker system has been tampered and the car is no more in their system,, i was shocked on their reply, i checked my mobile and the last sms i received from tracker company showed the location almost 100 mts away from my home, i went there , the full tracker device alongwith broken lock of my main gate was thrown there on road, i called 15 and they did the routine KHANA PURI...
The recovery incharge of tracker company also came on the spot and id like to share with all what he said" ham ne aapko inform kar diya tha, hum ne apni duty poori kar di hai??" what the f**k,,, i said is it that easy to remove tracker system which ur company installs in 3 hours?? reply was" chor hum se ziada advance hain" i said then why r we paying u " sir g hamara rizq laga hua hai" Can u people believe it??
Unfortunately the car was uninsured as i was using the tracker of this company (Tracking World) in my other cars also.. since last 6-7 years and i had blind trust on them but after all this incidence i advise everyone to not trust any ******** by any tracker company,, the only solution is comprehensive Insurance...
Points came to our notice after discussion with friends and policemen
1- Such incidences are taking place mostly in posh areas
2- Take Place between 2-6 am
3- The number one target car is corolla 2012 and then previous models..

Almost every victim receives calls from tribal areas with a offer to buy back the car but there have been incidences where cars are not handed offer to the owners after receiving ransom,, owners have themselves been trapped and kidnapped... Police is also involved with these gangs and provides ur secret information to the miscreants... May Allah Save us....

Guys I worked out how the thieves usually act and here is my analysis.

Trackers are useless, so are steering locks and any sort of mechanical locks inside the car.
Chor switches only help if u are not a heavy sleeper.

I did find a solution for some cars specially those with FWD and disc brakes installed. Saw these devices for bikes mainly but I have seen these in UK for those who dont pay parking tickets. This is bypass proof and u need a motorized saw to get through it, means it makes massive noise. However if a robber drives ur car with this ur car will get f**ked. Major brake rotor damage and possible suspension damage.

I am working on a system using wateen Wimax tech to secure cars, Wimax never gets blocked even if u have GSM jammers. Only problem is that Wimax setups have limited range so if u live in Peshawar and ur car is taken to hilly areas or out of city areas then u cant track it.
Another problem is that Wimax needs alot of power along with a PC that is so its wiring is easy to detect and cut.

ULTIMATE SOLUTION:

Wimax + Chor switch + Mechanical Locks + Wheel Shanks (When u park at night)
