Car Tracker Question?

I am working on my Final Year Project. I need to know these things about Car trackers in Pakistan.

1. If response/signals from car is not coming(say car gets out of Lahore and it turns OFF), if this is the case then how thieves these days are successfully stealing cars with the help of Jammer?

2. Is is still WISE to use GSM technology in anti theft systems? Because all over the world GSM technologies are being used and i'm doing something different to avoid cases of jamming(not using GSM technology).

Good to know brother, that your final year project is designing a tracker. I can help you on this project, and you will just need to work on hardware and program the device once it is ready. I can provide you with a logic, command structure which Microcontroller should accept and coordinate with the gsm chip. If further, you are stuck in hardware thing, then I can refer you to a Phd doctor who happens to be my friend and will rest assist you in hardware thing.
Gsm signals can easily be jammed whereas GPS signal is even more weaker so device which jams gsm jams GPS signal along with it. Every tracker is different from another tracker as few disconnects the engine if geo-fencing defined is violated and few just sends the signal to the owner that fencing has been breached.

1. If your last known location is your home then, in case of jamming then GPS unables to receive any further signals and assume that vehicle is still in your home even though its moved far away from it.
2. Even if cutoff relays are activated then its not difficult to trace them and bypass them.
3. Local electricians tends to install the cutoff relays very near to the engine or in most traceable areas, with innovation and idea, it can be installed in a place where it least challenging for the thieves to get it deactivated. Time is what can make a difference between theft and savior.

Yes I was planning to attach a GPS receiver (considering receiving requires no internet) with a micro-controller (Arduino with Bluetooth kit) and hard-code the points as legal area of the car. If car gets out of those bounds it gets off, but I got to know GPS too can be jammed so I am again back to my research. Do you think any GSM tracker can be made to avoid any jamming?
Of course time is the game and I am making sure to make it maximum fool proof by adding little but useful tricks.

To make the scope of the project better I’m making an android app to control all the unlocking, locking and start/stop engine and secured by a Password through it.

Nothing you do will prevent jamming. Jamming is simply transmitting noise on frequencies on which you receive the signal. Don’t worry about this, as this is a fundamental limitation which cannot be overcome but still you can design a good tracker for peace time application. For cutoff relay, you will have to keep a provision in your circuit, that it provides power (12 Volts -14Volts) depending upon the voltage generated by alternator to one of the pins and be able to turn “on” and “off” this pin after receiving a signal from the gsm module.

Android app is out of scope for a bachelors project, concentrate on gsm module, GPS module and microcontroller for integration and if you able to complete what you started then you got an “A”.

that was a relief to hear a 'A' grade but unfortunately getting an A in my university is very tough and we are bound to do something different. Making a tracker which is already running in Pakistan commercially is what i am worried about because we have to come up with something different or added things to already running project.

One more thing i needed to know what happens when in a routine car with a tracker goes into a Basement where signals are not reachable? what does cutoff relay do then?

is it possible for you to have the tracker device know when its being jammed? Also people often remove the trackers not jamming them.

How about a sound alarm as soon as the tracker is cut/removed or jammed??

and as soon as the alarm goes off the GSM tracker tries to obtain a position lock.. a panicked thief might turn the jammer off or reconnect the wires momentarily hopefully enough for a position lock which can then be sent to the owner??

I'm just saying.. profession wise i've got nothing to do with all these things.. and now taht i read it .. it sounds pretty stupid and movie like..

All reliable trackers nowadays work in conjunction to GSM signals when GPS antenna is not visible to open sky. Like the smart phones we select location update "active" & "set" to GPS / WIFI -which have an option for location, when in basement the GPS update its position with respect to nearest cell site the GSM signal is coming from.

yes these days trackers are available with JAM ALERT via sms / JAM Alert - activate security alarm /

JAM Alert - disable engine <--- this feature require a fuse linked over ECU Out put to "Ignition" which immediately burn out upon jammer is enabled, engine is cutoff if running / or fail to start & there is a extra warning light indicating BLOWN-UP Cartridge fuse location known only to the USER -

RF receiver can be attached, which determines the noise on certain frequency, compare it with thresh hold level and could make a pin high which activates a cutoff relays.

Cutoff relays are hardwired, best I found was a wireless cutoff relays provided they be reliable and transmits a signal to activate the relay. Wireless relays can be installed anywhere, it’s becomes assort of headeque to trace it and remove it.

I have yet not found a good android app which once opened then could show the position of your car in real time. Not much is expected from Bachelors projects, like if you able to demonstrate that you can program a micro controller, knows little bit about designing PCB boards, designing a power supply, understands GSM module and be able to integrate the entire thing with GPS then that’s its self is a big achievement provided you able to complete what you started.

Having done the basic part, small tricks, add ons can make the project look very promising and be appreciated.
