Dear Pakwheelers,
My name is Junaid Ahmed. A friend of mine runs a car rental/taxi service. He currently owns few cars and pays subscription fees for the trackers that are installed on those. Recently he asked me if there is a device that he can use to track his cars on his own in a sense that he want some kind of GPS tracker that doesn't come with monthly or yearly subscription fees. He is looking for a device that can provide real-time tracking and can be hardwired to the cars so that he doesn't have to worry about battery charging and/or replacement. I have researched about this topic and I have found few devices that he can use to manage his cars GPS data but none of those offers those features that he is looking for (because which offer these features come with monthly plans). Some use satellite to log track data and some use a SIM card. But most of them aren't available here. And even I can get my hands on them, map coverage is another issue, I think.
So my request to you guys is this: is there something out there (in Pakistan) that he can use with one-time cost or at least is there any cheap but also reliable way of doing this?
Any help/insight would be appreciated.
