Hi All,
I recently bought my first car which is Khyber GA 1999
My car is in mint condition everything was maintained well the only problem with the car was black smoke and poor mileage 9km on long
I took that to my mechanic and he disassembled the carburetor. We identified one of its plate was broken due to extra tightening and lots of vacuum pipes were disconnected. One of those were fixed by him for AC 3 months back.
On that day my mechanic installed small size jets and said to test it.
Problems I faced after that were
- My car won't start on first self like it was use to.
- Pick of my car wasn't very good.
I continued to research and came across installing Mehran China Carburetor in my car.
I know on this form most of people are against it but keeping current carburetor condition in my mind and specially finding a good mechanic and spending time with them was costing me more money because I could not focus on my own work.
So I took this risk keeping in mind in worst case I can use that in my Family Car which is Mehran.
So I went and bought it.
Problems I faced during Installation and Questions I am looking answers for.
1. High RPM butterfly vacumm cup of new Carburetor was touching the engine so we needed 1 inch spacer. For now we removed that Vacuum and installed the carburetor without Spacer. I heard this from many other local mechanics there high RPM butterflies are chocked in 80% of cars in Pk.
2. Khyber Fuel Pump has a return pipe but Mehran Carburetor has a return pipe. So he closed the one from Fuel pump and connected return pipe with new carburetor.
3. AC Vacuum was not present in new carburetor so had to get one installed Kabli one which is working fine so far.
Questions I have are
1. Do I really need to install the spacer and get the second butterfly active.
2. Fuel return is okay from Carburetor or shall I install a T joint and use both return pipes. I understand this can conflict if I install a T I will have to fine a one way flow joint so fuel only returns to Tank.
Another thing I noticed was When testing mechanic changed distributor to advanced. Moved towards him. I asked him way he was it was a bit out of timing and now is fixed it is matching.
I am not an expert this is all I have learned about carburetor in last 1 month but what I have observed sitting in my car is performance is totally opposite to what I was expecting my car turned out to be a horse. All it needs is a little push and it shows its power. This changed all my doubts which I was thinking it has weak clutch plates or other engine issues.
For those who would be commenting go get installed a 125 carburetor etc I still have my original one and will surely give it to someone good who can rebuild it and get it installed again in case of performance or any other issues with this. For now this was the only way to find some peace and save time.
