Today, I got new packing of this castrol magnatec 10w40, being marketed here by castrol pakistan pvt ltd. ( though no website of theirs is present and their marketing company as ppl say, the M&P company is not responsive)
Anyways atleast now they have the same packing as that of UAE imported 5w-30.

in isb i get castrol magnetec from shops in G-10 markaz I&T. Baig lubs .... costs like 2600 rs i think .... but i believe they are semi synthetic not fully ! overall very good oil, had good experience with it in city 2006. drove like 70k offers good consumption + cleaning agents. i used it like 4k change interval .....

I got it in 2200 rs. Plus they will refund 100 rs. When i return the empty can.

I needed a semi synthetic oil in 5w30 n 10w40 grades with api SN and reasonable price.

There is no problem in using fully synthetics. I think 5w40 grade is the best I can use in my car. But I have preferred the synthetic blend bcoz of very less running of the car. I drive around 10km in a day and that so 2-4 days in a week. So if I drive daily n some nearby out station, even then it runs no more than 1500-2000km in 3-4 months. So I dont want to pay 1k-3k rs more on fully synthetics as I can't avail its benefit of long OCI. I know there are many other benefits as well apart from long OCI. But then synthetic blends ( dont know how much synthetics there is in), would have lil benefits of synthetics also. Some ppl might say y not use minerals then, but they probably dont have 5w30 grades and some synthetic additves.
This is my case scenario. Thats y not using fully synthetics.

Above is the PDS of castrol magnatec 5w30 n 10w40, from uae site.
I have a query about the some values.
5w30 is no doubt superior to 10w40 in winters.
And in summers, a thicker grade is considered.
But when I compare these two grades, I see that 5w30 has better viscosity index and same flash point. 10w40 is only having thicker viscosity@100?C.
so, is the viscosity index n flash points more important than viscosity, in regards of high temps use???

Should i use it it my civic 2005 vti manual, ~120k km driven?
Since day one, i have been using the honda genuine oil 5w30 (i know its from total) . I guess its also a semi-synthetic oil. Should i continue using what i have always used or switch to castrol? I also read on forums some people suggesting hx7 while some suggesting caltex havoline... i am confused.

I suggest dont switch ur engine oil if engine isnt consuming it. If it is in small quantity like 200-300 ml then switch to 10w40 .... otherwise no need to switch viscosity.
Reg brand I say castrol lub is much better then that of honda oil. Rest ur choice. Only issue I feel is authenticity of original oil from market .....

No its not consuming any oil at all. I just thought that may be 5w30 is not good any more for 120k driven engine in this summer's heat. 5w30 is fine considering its going to be a pretty hot summer?

And if i can find 5w30 semi-syn in other brands, which one should i opt for? Lastly, semi-syn is fine right? no need to go for synthetic ones

No issue bhai ... u r doing fine so far means ur car engine is fine. No issue of summer or winter.... 5w30 is good for both seasons. Its engine health which matters and driving scenario.... I suggest use same viscosity with any brand u like but make sure its not repacked one. Castrol is good. Zic. Liqui moly all are good ....
Synthetic ones drain interval is long like 7k u could but expensive.
I suggest go.for semi synthetic with best quality filter and change interval like 4k to 5k max ....

Liqui moly has OCI like 10k but as we have very dusty environment so many experts here on.pakwheels suggest use less expensive oil and shorten the OCI will keep engine more healthy ....

just checked the old bottle its SL 10w30. Should i go for some SN 10w30 as SN grade is latest? and is it ok to change brand at this stage?
I get filter from honda as well, its change interval is 10k

Its my personal opinion I find castrol magnetec having better cleaning agents and better fuel economy comparing havoline ....
