Dear,
No matter if ur is VTI, VVTi, Dual VVTI, VTEC or whatever, you are bound to have some mono oxides of Carbon and Nitrogen as a result of combustion. Its the job of Cat Con and its honeycomb along with catylists to perform oxidation and reduction to convert carbon mono oxide to carbon dioxide, and nitrogen mono oxide to nitrogen and oxygen.

Keep in mind that these mono oxides are very harmful to humans and animals. And by this logic of having carby or efi engine, all the world shall throw cat cons out of the cars but they wont do it because they care.

No wonder u see loads and loads of people, children and adults with breathing related diseases and numbers are increasing each year.

If u really want to see pollution in action then just look for pollution indices when coronna wasn in full action in certain countries and cities with lockdown, u would notice significant diff. U would realise that how much pollution the traffic can cause, now imagine if all the cat converters are given a bath in taizaab by un educated mecahanics, the sitiation would be much worse.

When a certain part is put in the car, it has some purpose to it, otherwise why all the modern countries are hell bent over emission regulations.

Cat Con is major component in reducing pollution and it is not recommended to destriy it if u r going to climb deosai or babusar top or khujerab top.

Gutka chewing, penny stealing mechanic who recommends acid for cat con clean jobs has zero interest in well being of ur car and environment. Also he has not even a slightest clue how imp this cat con is for the car.
Dont get influenced by these ideas by mechanics and do ur research, coz at the end its ur car, ur health, ur environment and ur country at stake.

Did anybody try gutting the cat?? and preventing the CEL by offsetting the O2 sensor or using an O2 signal simulator??

what is an O2 signal simulator? can you post a picture of the same?

By the way on these forums I read that there is a mechanic in Rawalpindi who replaces the inside of the cat with his own built honeycomb. So the voice of the car remains the same and cat doesn't get blocked. Charges were 7,500 as given in the forum

Removing a cat will leave you with three things:
1. No more cat means a better exhaust flow which means better power; this comes at cost of harmful exhaust gases.
2. A howling kinda of a sound. Some people love it and would remove a CAT just to get this sound, some people won't and would go and put an aftermarket mesh like the Jali guy you mentioned
3. CEL. Due to absence of a CAT, you end up with P0420/P0430 codes. To get rid of these codes, you can either offset (by making a custom extension to O2 sensor, or by modifying and stacking spark plug defoulers) your O2 sensor from the Cat housing or by fitting an O2 signal simulator which is essentially an RC circuit as discussed in this link.

No, and that's why they're one of the biggest polluters..

There should be annual emissions testing of each n every vehicle on road. Any vehicle failing to reduce harmful emissions and going above a certain limit should be banned from coming on road. That means their catalytic converter has gone bad or vehicle doesn't have it.

That's how it is in civilized n developed countries, that's why no air pollution.

i talked with Toyota Peco Road and they told me in case of chocked up CC, they just break it up, or install a new one. Their customers usually opt for breaking up of the CC. This was told to me by one of the mechanic.

For example if you buy iridium spark plugs from Toyota they are selling for 16000 and if you buy from outside you can get for around 4-5000. I did not ask them the charges for a new CC but i am sure it would be out of the range for most people.

Definitely you are correct when you talk about the exhaust emissions but what about the Bhattas running all around Lahore and they can be found in nearly all the villages. They will burn anything which they can find cheap including leather scraps . Burning of leather scraps will release Chromium from the leather which is a carcinogenic.

And most at least 95 % of all factories run their generators (diesel mostly) without any type of filters during load shedding. There are too many examples here.

Do you know that Chrome polluted water from Kasur was found in the aquafers of DHA Lahore? ( this is 55 km distance from kasur).

Also in all the airplanes there are no filters and neither are they available in the war machines (tanks etc). America is running submarine with nuclear energy , what do you think would happen in case something happens to the submarine ?

I think that something did happen to one of their submarines . let me search it up.

Also America is one the world's biggest polluters.

Honda's are famous for getting chocked up after 40,000 km. Vitz also get chocked up quickly.

ever been to a developed or partyl developed country? why air is so clean there? ever imagined? Despite having factories producing trillions of dollars of goods? (Pak produces maybe 0.4% - yet air is toxic).

It's because all their vehicles have extremely low emissions, they don't play with their cat converters.

So, no need to defend removing or ruining cat converters. That is a problem.

And bhattis and factories producing gases is also an issue, but a separate one -- in a car forum, we need to deal with catalytic converter issues.

Bro, i would just say, u can have millions of examples of pollution in pakistan and all over the world , still it would not be ok to remove cat con from car at all. Two wrongs dont make it right. It is that simple.

Well then this is something to be dealt with on the government level. They should place restrictions and also provide facility for easy change of the CC if needed (by ordering the producers of the same to subsidize the rates).

only then will the people stop removing them. New ones should be easily available and people should not have to visit Bilal Gunj to find a CC from there.
