Catalytic cleaning

Hello Experts,
I have xli 2016 model. total milage of car is 67K. I never cleaned the catalytic converter. should i cleaned it or not? i am not facing any problem.

Just to maintain the cat condition, once in a while drive with rev up continuously for half an hour on a highway.

Cats don't ever need cleaning, they get so hot (Generally 300-500C) that all the residue gunk and soot clears out. It does get clogged if car is burning engine oil.

Drive on high revs for half an hour on a highway, Generally 80-100kph between 3000-5000rpm , this will also clear out some of the engine carbon build up.

Best to pour a fuel system cleaner for best results.
Also if mileage is ok then no need to do any of the above. Just keep driving.

Then do not do anything.

Only get it serviced when you feel drop in pick, power, performance, or fuel efficiency of your car.

Liqui Moly Cat Conv cleaner, or Motorclean Pakistan.

Proficar may also suffice for locally assembled Corolla

Liqui-moly catalytic converter clean is a good product. It's added to fuel tank and then car is to be driven at high RPMs for 30 mins. Best result when car is driven in highway at high rpm

i saw to many videos in which liqui moly is directly added to cat pipe with high pressure...is it a good approach to add it in fuel tank?

The have 2 products. One is fed through the intake pipe in engine ( catalytic cleaner) the second product is poured into the fuel tank (catalytic clean)

I got my 2008 corolla cat cleaned from Zakir Autos behind masjid e shuhada mall road. They charged 1,000 . put in some acid and then used high pressure water to wash it . pick increased at least 15%. and so did fuel economy. you could try them.

Our Cats do get dirty because of fuel quality. No amount of cat cleaning liquids will actually clean out our cats. They are basically for newer cars. I tried them and it didn't work at all.

We have to get it done physically. I met a guy at the autos and he told me that his vitz cat blocks up at around 18 -20,000 km only and then he has to get it cleaned up.

Acid will damage the deposits of rare earth metals inside CAT and after such acid bath, CAT will not reduce emissions and thus ur call will pollute the environment.

I don't think that this would make much difference at all. Our cars are vti already fuel and air are mixed in a better way and they produce less pollution than our carburettor cars.

I am already planning to get it cleaned again from them as i want to visit Hunza. The climb from Chillas to Hunza is too much for a 1.3 liter car with full load and you need all the help which you can get. Hi octane wont help much as the car would need oxygen for the hi octane to help. Also you can't get Hi octane in Chillas or Hunza, I searched but could not find any pump selling them.

oh the oxygen is there it is simply not in sufficient quantity. Also you car will bog down even while going to babusar in a lot of spots and will not accelerate above 40 km.

Did I say 40 ? I meant 30 or even 20 km in some places even on level ground .
last year after passing Lulusar, i saw a Bolan Van not being able to accelerate on level area in front of me.I was going at around 30 with full accelerator in second gear and at that particular spot there was only a very slight incline.

No. You don't clean the cat converter. You basically destroy it.

When acid is poured in, all the elements and materials that are there to actually reduce emissions n pollution get destroyed. In many cases the honeycomb grill n structure is also broken n washed away.

So, there's virtually no catalytic converter left except the body of that thing.

The "increase" in pick etc you feel is because there's no catalytic converter honeycomb left. All destroyed. Might as well throw it away physically.
