Changing Cultus CNG switch

I have Cultus 2008 recently i changed its CNG guanine switch with ordinary EFI switch, which is used in common cars. The reason was, company fitted switch took 90 seconds to convert from petrol to CNG and it cost me a full petrol tank in a month.
Does it harm engine or car performance?

@Poster, do let us know if you feel difference in Petrol consumption now and also tell if you have cut-off the petrol pump when the car is on CNG.

Yes i agree, the petrol consumption is way too much, i wonder does a 90 sec start-up causes this much petrol consumption, or what ?

Obviously petrol consumption is too much low now, it seems full tank is enough for 4-6 months and i personally do not feel any change in performance of car.

Regarding petrol consumption in first 90 sec, every time i start my car, no matter after 2 sec, it took 90 sec to convert on CNG and in each start it consume at least .25 liter petrol.

The engine being EFI uses rich fuel mixture, due to engine at lower that ambient temperature, during and for a couple of minutes after start ups. The ECU does this to warm up the engine, as well as compensate for the lower engine performance while the engine is cold. Thats the reason for extra consumption of petrol in the first 90 seconds.

Can u please let us know from where did you get the switch changed ?, and upto what extent has he altered the wiring, i assume he must have removed/ bypass the LC01 lambda ECU (which is located under steering side).

yes i am also concerned about too much petrol consumption.

do let me know i also want to reduce this conversion time.

Easy way but not recommended.

Switch on the car so that all the lights on the meter comes up, press the CNG button, it will show yellow light for petrol, then again press for 5 seconds and start the car. the car will now start on CNG.

But it is not recommended according to the owners manual

^^ The objective is not to start the car on GAS, aim is to start the car on petrol and convert it to CNG quickly.

The change is done by a Mechanic (Adnan) at KANDAN CNG commercial market Rawalpindi. it costs me RS 1800-/

Seems he did not remove the LC01 ECU under steering ?

The delay in CNG conversion is intentionally provided by car manufacturers to ensure that CNG is operated at optimum engine temperature. This is to keep engine healthy. Remember that factory design is implemented after several considerations while our local mechanics & CNG fitters are ...........

You are right it does consume a bit of petrol, but if you think this way the amount you were spending on petrol earlier is now on CNG. So cost reduction is say 30-40%, its not like you are saving all your spent earlier on petrol.

the poor car was getting something for which it was made n company gave her vitamins n calcium for 90 seconds and you even took that away...

people, for your problem, there is an official solution. i had same fuel consumption problem too, that my car runs 90sec on petrol on start up. but now with the same switch, with no hardware/wire changed etc, my car converts in 7 sec to CNG. All this done by just update/amendments in software/ECU of car by computer. and it was done by SUZUKI DANISH MOTORS. i went for just engine tuning of my car, shared my problem with them, and they solved it by just attaching a laptop and updating software. and now am happy with it with no problems since 8 months. This means that all the official suzuki workshops have ability to do this job. hope this will help your problem. thanks

in any case - you should not be using fuel more than a month old sitting in your tank. Ideally you should only convert to CNG when the engine temp comes to normal range, i.e. half on the gauge.

How if your engine is well tuned on CNG and with the auto choke at engine startup, if you convert to CNG right after ? provided the engine is running smooth. ?

then why would you really need to warm up the car before converting to CNG ?

P.S engine warms up pretty quick on CNG as compare to Petrol.

My Cultus 2010 is on it's FF cng switch. In a month it takes abt 600 rs petrol, for tt I get no trouble in starting or ac issue or any pickup issues. 600 rs mn sasta soda hy. I used to do the switching manually in my Baleno 05 manually to save petrol but didn't face any problems
