Changing Engine Oil Brand

Hi everyone,

hope you are doing good!

I have a query & expert advice is requested from fellow members in this regard. One of my office colleague wants to change the oil brand from Castrol to Zic or Liqui Moly but is not confident about changing the brand. Most of the office colleagues are suggesting that oil brand should not be changed at all as this may ruin your car's engine.

I am of the opinion that engine oil brand can be changed but oil grade should be same e.g one can switch from Havoline 10-40W to Zic 10-40W etc but oil grade should not be changed very frequently. Experts are requested to shed some light on this topic. Thanks!

bro i had changed brand from castrol magnetic 10w40 to Zic 10W40 .... and i am much satisfied with it, no problem so far, approx 20k driven after oil change .... car, city 2006 on petrol ....
difference is engine sound improved after zic .... go for it , no prob at all !!!!

changing brand wont affect....i ve changed from Zic XQ 5w40 fully synthetic to Liqui Moly synthoil high tech fully synthetic 5w40 in my markx but dont change the brand frequently too like within 6 months u changed to 3 or 4 different brands.....u can go for different grades also but again changing oil grade consistently can affect ur engine health n fuel consumption

Asad! Well Liana was running on Caltex (54k km) till I bought last Sept....I started using Ultra7 since from the very 1st oil change and so far i have driven it around 12k km and no problem at all (Masha'Allah).
On the other hand I have a Mehran 2004 and it is running on Shell from the very first day of its life on road Thought of changing the brand for it also but somehow still running it on Shell - the yellow one.

I used to use ZIC A (SAE10W-40, API SN) for good two years (36K kms) then switched to Castrol Magnatec (SAE 10W-40, API SL). After 2 oil changes with Castrol and 10K kms reverted back to ZIC A. No problem in changing what so ever because Zic is no doubt better that is if you get the original stuff. I buy from metro where Zic A 4L costs 1990/- so you save and feel safe too.

Stick to your manufacturer's recommended grade (prescribed in owner's manual). Switching between brands is no problem at all, as long as you choose good reputable brands to hop on or hop off.
In some cases, however switching between mineral oil and synthetic oil can be problematic.
