Changing oil grade in car

Assalam o Alaikum!!
My father have honda reborn 2008 Auto, so he got a new car and Reborn was left to me, he was using havouline 20w50 oil in it(my father doesn't know much about cars) it is driven 1 lac 67 thousand KM, and im thinking to shift to 5w30 synthetic oil, should i change the grade of oil my father been using this grade oil for 3 years straight,
Should i switch to 5w30 grade oil??
Will it have harmful effects on engine?

I would say shift onto 5w40 instead. You can use havoline 5w40 fullysynthetic in it with 5000kms/6 months drain intervals. Keep on checking oil level after every 500kms. If it reduces too much oil then you can switch back to 20w50 again. I don't think it will reduce, but saying just as a precaution.

Switch to 10w40 first and see is there any oil reduction, if no reduction there switch to 5w30, if oil reduces on 5w30 then switch back to 10w40 and use it afterwards ...

your car is driven over 1.5 lac , you shouldn’t switch directly from a higher viscosity to a lower viscosity grade. In the next oil change try 10w40 , if it works fine and you observe no oil consumption ya leakages then try 10w30 the next time . The best grades for this engine are 10w30 ya 5w30 at this stage but you have to make sure that you gradually make a shift without harming the engine.
