Charade 86 brake discs and pads advice

i just came back from my mechanics for an inspection of my cars brake disk and pad. He says these are the original discs which came factory fitted since we had the car from oct 1986. They are thin and worn out and need replacement. local lahori is for 1800 a pair and 4500 for kablie japanese.

should i go for it ?

Only front or all four

the price is right for the front rotors but it has to be japanese, not from local scrap butchered cars.
do inspect the back wheel brake drums also, they will also be needing replacement.

My opinion is that never ever go for Kabuli parts, Always buy new parts.

Even if sourcing Japanese parts are difficult, find compatible Taiwan, Chinese or even Local but should be new

Replacing discs on g11 entails undoing the hub too as the disc sits behind the hub make sure your mechanic has proper disc brake bearing grease to repack the bearings correctly and also have brand new grease seals too.

Buy new discs and caliper boot kit along with silicone grease and make sure your guy reinstalls the stainless steel anti rattle clips.

Very simple job but a bit extra work due to its design.

thats the problem bro, no mechanic wants to invest time and energy into these old cars as there is not much they can make out of it . I am not even sure if they have the right equipment to carry out this replacement.

looks like i will have to visit plaza or call someone at bilal gunj to source the part. Now where on earth do i find an honest mechanic.....

Mehrans ,khybers and fx have the same setup upftont, meaning they have to pull the hub out.

Do your due diligence and buy all the required parts and greases and have it done according to what you like.

did u just say ur 86 charade is still running on oem disc pads neeeding replaement for the first time

I read as he had original equipment brake discs only, not pads.

So he has got his car pad slapped a few times in its life along with too much machining down of the discs.

new parts specially discs are hard to find. maybe u can get the brake pads and bearings etc but discs are questionable.

You can surely find them, lots of local foundrys were casting them. Bearings are generic standard sized items, they are plain ball bearings.

The pads wont be difficult either, the anti rattle clips, rubber boot kit and hydraulic hosepipes would be a bit difficult.

But can be sourced in plaza market karachi at the old pbr store.

I have seen some setups having facility of refurbishing the old Discs & pads as per your requirement. Such setups are also at Sagheer Centre market and Shah Faisal Automotive market.

Anti rattle clips, rubber boot kit and hydraulic hosepipes are difficult to find but both above markets have lots of them out from accidented cars.

the lahori discs are unbalanced / uneven casting.

I bought once long time ago. had to get them turned once to fix the run out.

afzaal does brake disc / hub works too.

for turning of discs theres a small shop in plaza market which has lathes for flywheel and brake disc machining. they do only this work for nominal rates, and are super busy. afzaal sends flywheel/disc machining works to them.

bearing / fitting works afzaal will do.

Refurbishing old discs?

Meaning chucking them on a lathe? What if the disc is already paper thin?

They claim that they "repair", whatever do they do in name of repair like i asked them last time few months ago that in how much they will do for my Charade?

He gave 3 options:

1. He told 3000 on exchange if you will give me old on and take me the already "repaired" one from his shop

2. If i will not give my old ones, then rate will be 3,600 for already "repaired" one from his shop

3. If i repair my old ones, then he will charge 2,800

I am trying to shortlist a car to start a project. one of the cars that is on my list is Charade initially the plan was to buy a two door GTi if I did go with it but now I think 4 door is what I will go for. Before I make that decision I wanted to seek some advice from some senior's. Can someone share some pointers with me. To be honest I haven't owned a used car for quite sometime. I do have some mechanics/denter/painters not sure how good they will be on a complete restoration. I can also go for a high end paint we can improvise because the car that I have in my mind and I intend to buy will need a restoration not completely because the body is in very good shape but bad paint touchups. My concern is the spare parts the prices and availability like and what engine should I go for also breaks suspensions is there an engine that can go on the same foundations or we will alter. I want the project to be a show car with powerful engine as much as I would like to race the focus wilI be more towards a smooth ride with minimum issues arising once it is built.
I can spend time in workshops and search for spare parts but I don't know where to begin if I did go for charade. The other choices are Civic 2000, civic 2002 black interior these two I have a little bit of idea. I feel these are a bit on the expensive side and considering this will not be my daily driven but something that I would like to enjoy and a weekend car. I intend to go for maximum excellent replacements I can. I have had cars that I modified here and there but nothing too serious. I have saved for sometime to finally do something that I always wanted and If I go for civic 2002 that will delay things as I don't want to have low quality work done. Things changed because of really high prices for used cars.
