Charade 86 is CDI or Point? Is it ok to buy such car? And Can I convert it to CDI? How much it cost?

I am having a budget of 2.5 lac and just searching for a Khyber or Charade since last month but yet not find any good one. Actually in pictures car is shown up the other condition and when I go to see live they are totally opposite to the pictures. However just found one good car Charade 86 model it is but now some friends suggesting me to not go for a Charade cuz it is having a Point system which is a bad and old system in this system you would face car missing issues. So I am confused now what to do now, Should I wait and only search for Khyber or should I buy Charade? And if you say go for charade then is it necessary to switch it to CDI system? IF yes then what would be its cost and rough idea please?
Please give me your expert opinions. (Especially charade owners)

you sound very confused.

the contact breaker points work ok and reliably as long as the system is fully working, the usual culprit that kills CB points is a bad capacitor or a really heavy duty coil.

Point is equally reliable never face such issues when my car had a point based distributor. Its just need periodic maintenance.

Then I shifted to CDI distributor, very easy bolt on fit, just need a little tweak in connection. Advantages, no maintenance, improved current.

Big thing is to get a genuine (on original specs as well). Cheaters here modified point based to CDI and they are not reliable. Charades had company fitted CDI distributors, try to get those only.

Firstly - there is literally no CDI as cars have had battery powered ignitions since the 1930s, CDI is capacitor discharge ignition to charge the coil, in a car the battery power charges the coil.

whatever is being called CDI in cars is nothing more than a pulse generator and ignitor to switch the coil off and on in order to generate a spark.

and btw - dont install the electronic ignition distributor unit from a turbo G11 charade, its breaker plate advance unit works on pressure and retards timing, its centrifugal advance is also curved very different and when used on an NA engine, the engine has almost no pickup.

TL DR
repair and overhaul the old distributor - tune it correct and you will enjoy the peppy response from the small 3 cyl Toyota/Daihatsu engine.

I had similar experience. There were two models, one is with black cap and screws. It didn't matches the timing perfectly, had missings.

The second one is ditto same, like red cap with clips but internal are changed, point is replaced with CDI unit. I got it installed like 5 years back and its peace since then.
