Get any old car, if and only if, you can find one in good nick and have the capability, intention and willingness to get your hands dirty on self maintenance.
Because mechanics are only good for nothing.
My experience.
Bought a good condition charade and after bad experiences with mechanics did following stuff my self with the help of 'The Xulfiqar',
1) rear bumper removal, alignment and refitting.
2) Sound deadening
3) Auto gear oil replacement
4) Carburetor vacuum pipes
5) Plug gap sizing and engine timing adjustment
6) Carburetor adjustment back to petrol(car was tuned on cng by previous owner. had to read and understand engine manual for carburetor working and parts)
7) Replaced hub bearings myself (Had to go do hydraulic press for removal and reinsertion)
8) Removed the heavy chap (cylinder) from the trunk myself
9) Installed proper audio player myself (however, shorted the players board on first attempt and had to get it repaired, but you know experience and learning have a cost)
AC service was beyond my capability so got it done from AC wala in Islamabad.
If you can do such kind of things yourself then getting any older car, be it a charade, khyber mehran is easy. Else every old car will crave you for panadols.
