Sad incident today: On my way home from office, without any hint, the clutch pedal went free. Once I saw inside from the hood side, the wire had come off cleanly from the cabin/ clutch pedal end and was visible inside the elbow that was dangling from the firewall. Apparently this elbow had also come loose from its locking notch in the firewall. Assessment was to secure the cable with the pedal and all would be fine. Fetched the nearest mechanic for the job.
He failed. Clumsily he tried to attach the cable back and in doing so removed it from the lever at the other end also near the radiator ( I dont know the name of the actual body on which this lever is mounted..perhaps it houses some reduction gears.)
Finally he managed, but the clutch owuld not budge.
He declared the clutch setting was loose, so removed the adjustment O rings and shifted it endwards. Again the clutch would NOT move.
Then despite my constant insistence not to use force, he tried to manhandle the gear lever to shift it in gear, until at last, smoke started coming out of a tiny vent on this reduction gear body on which this clutch activating lever at the other end of the clutch cable is attached. I politely told him to shoe off. He maintained that there is problem in gearbox.
I have no idea.
I have towed my beauty (if I can take the liberty of naming her so!) to my garage where it will rest till I am through with a few exams that I have to appear for in another two weeks.
Meanwhile, can some one educate me, and tell me of some sincere mechanic in pindi. All advise is a Godsend, I would appreciate.
