Hi Guys,
Im planning on building a cheap RWD buggy with a tubular frame and basic parts from local vehicles initially, once its working and the physics seems alright ill upgrade the suspension components and engine in progression. Here's what I've jot down for the build
1. Frame - Tubular self made with square and round pipes( Please recommend gauge of steel and Dia as i plan to flip it over at least once)
2. Engine and Tranny - 1.0L or 1.3L cheap engine with gearbox ( Cheapest i can find initially, something like a Japanese swift/Liana engine with stock gearbox.
3. Suspension - IFS AND IRS complete of Suzuki Cultus or equivalent car with independent suspension.Rear struts of cultus will be used on all 4 tires as they have slightly more travel than the front ones, will obviously need to lower the spring rate and the shocks stiffness would be something ill deal with once its on the ground.
4. Steering and Brakes - Will be bought with the suspension of the same car so the steering fits perfectly, Brake lines will be modified according to the dimensions of the vehicle.
5. Fuel Tank - The smallest fuel tank would be installed around 30-40L capacity if found
6. Radiator - Plan to put a performance aluminium radiator as the engine and radiator will be mounted at the back would have less air circulation.
7. Seats - Racing Seat with 5 point harness.
My inspiration is from this single seater piranha buggy running a VW 1.8L,
Plan to have some fun on it on some dirt tracks, No hardcore offroading or anything, basically a go-kart for sand/dirt.
at a later stage i plan to make my own control arms upper and lower and other suspension components and then try to accommodate longer travel shocks. Would need advice from all senior DIY experts, Let me know if I'm missing any crucial details/parts that i might end up needing for the build. My initial budget is not to cross 250k with the details mentioned above.
Can anyone give me any idea if i were to use a air cooled 600cc bike engine, would that be any good?
