Hi!
I was having issue with my Chevy JOY, initially RPM were high so i went to Chevrolet authorize Workshop, they charged me 3,500 for computer reprogramming and everything went fine. But next morning, the car did not start properly and it was dropping RPM I managed to take it back to the dealer and they said it seems the Throttle is not working properly and needs to be replaced...
The cost of throttle they quoted was 14,000 /= i am already pissed off paying them 3,500 and now they saying to replace the throttle kindly help me in this situation and tell me if i can find any local mechanic who can diagnose the exact problem and resolve it at a reasonable price.

did they service throttle body before reprogramming?
if not then get it serviced...
and is this problem on both fuels i mean CNG and petrol??

may b there is a vacuum leak from throttle body coz of lose NUTS or worn out seal??

disconnect one battery ternimal to reset computer,, usually 30 seconds is enough time to reset

sensor/ wires plugged in proper, not loose.

vaccum were not disconnected during service. are you sure vaccums are properly connected,, chk with another car same engine.

choke release might be an issue,

Yes i am facing the issue with both Fuel, no idea if they service the throttle body or not. Since they are authorized service center they should be aware of all these things shouldn't they :@

disconnect one battery ternimal to reset computer,, usually 30 seconds is enough time to reset

sensor/ wires plugged in proper, not loose.

chevy is different from all the cars in this ecu resetting matter...they had to be re programmed to solve rpm issue...
and this didnot have any Idea control valve...

if you facing same issue on cng then it is not throttle body issue get your cng tunned...
check your bill(recipt) their must b written whether they cleaned it or not...
didnt they ask you?

well thats GM for you - specially when you have a GM car made by underpaid east asians.

Anyways - get them to actually give you a positive result that you need a throttle replacement, they usually fail from the ECU driver side, it packs up and needs a complete reflash. This similar problem occurs in Mazda RX8 also and also in Toyota Crown 2JZ - but the toyota problem is solved by calibrating the TPS of the throttle blade motor.

Bhai accelerate ki wire cable check karo or saaf karo !

All above things are plausible. I say check the MAF sensor. that is usually the root cause.

Anyways - get them to actually give you a positive result that you need a throttle replacement, they usually fail from the ECU driver side, it packs up and needs a complete reflash. sir my problem was solved after paying 4K to the 3s dealers...they remove the throttle body and cleaned it with petrol and installed it back...
then mechanic noted my chassis # and take it to the office then a boy come with scan tool and connect it to the ecu for a minute or two and take it back to the office and come back again after 5 minutes and connect it again then it took just 10 minutes reload the program in ecu and the problem was almost gone...
and after driving for few days it was 100% gone..

if it was a MAF sensor fault their must be a check light must be turned on..

I am sure many mechanics must have told you to replace the Entire throttle body as the sensor is built-in into it so they say it needs a complete replacement, in reality it doesn't need anything, it only needs ECU's flashing and re-programming

sir i searched whole lahore but no one else was having this scan tool for chevy...
so i had to pay 4K to them..
yup many mechanics said i had to change throttle body, i laughed at them and get out of the workshop...
yes they re program it calibrate TPS..

get your ECU reset, i cleaned my car's throttle too and its RPM started to behave abnormally, it was a trouble to drive for many months, dealership asked to get the complete Throttle body changed, but i was reluctant, finally i found a guy who said he'll do it for me for 2,000 rupees only, he got it done in a few minutes :o

Really a Joy 14000 for a throttle body.Now i guess my Civic doesn't ask for the moon.

my problem was solved from the 3s dealers of lahore..
what kind of problem is your car having continuous ups n downs of RPM or the shoot quite high and then come back to normal...?

as you said u are facing same problem on both fuels(cng and petrol)...then it had no concern with throttle body...
few days back i visited 3s dealers again and saw 4 more chevy joy with same rpm problem (continuous ups and downs in rpm and engine vibrating like crazy)..
and the mechanics were unable to solve then problem of any one of them...
the thing they told to the cars owners were like this..
1: you gaskit is weak
2: your plugs need replacement
3: your ignition coil is weak
4: pay 500 in the office and get your car scanned with computer
etc etc etc

my little advice
get your plugs checked....when did you last tym changed your plugs and the how much your car is driven(kilometers)?
get your cars voltage checked....may b its battery of alternator is weak so the idel rpms are not stable due to low voltage...

problem is on cng only ... and its droping and increaseing rpm continiously ... and engine goes off wen i turn the a.c on on idle..... i have changed the plugs today but no changed... inshallah will change plug wires tomorrow... 3s here in karachi told me today to change the throttle body costing 18000pkr... uff i am so wurried
