City Idsi engine, is it any good?

So guyz this must be discussed before but what i want is just a simple statement that after that claims of being very technically advanced and yeah those 8 spark plugs and all other stuff, is the engine any better in performance then others in the same category........... and just the engine not discussing the car here........ and someone said that it's not 1.3 litre as claimed by honda atlas but actully it's 1.2............... what's the truth in that?

As far as i know this engine is good in petrol average,but it is quite weaker in performance compared to 1.3 litres engines in lancer,liana,corolla and sunny.

this is a 1.2 litre engine......

not very good in performance and maintainance is very tough to perform coz of cluttered engine bay and no access to belts, generators etc

but i hv heard it gives good mileage

as far as I-Dsi engine was concerned........its a fully Econo Class engine with Intelligence Dual & Sequencial Ignition...thats the engine which uses 8 Spark Plugs...for smart Ignition on right times on Combustion.....so no mixture was let out of engine without burning........!
its a SOHC 8V engine...........so thats not good when come on sudden engine response as its a Generation of Twin cams nowdays but anywayz...it puts on 78Horses......!
anywayz...fuel milage of IDsi was good...but as its queit complicated to maintain........old Honda Style!

Although a 1246CC engine, the iDSI doesnt dissapoint. With regards to fuel consumption,, it averages 12+ in the low RPMs, ie under 2500. Performance wise, the iDSI kicks in after 80 in the Vario and cruises to 140/150 with ease. However it cannot be compared to the XLi nor the Liana or Baleno which outperform the iDSI below the 100Kph range.

iDSi engine is definatly a very advanced engine but the problem comes up when you put in weak engine in a big chasis. L12A2 engine is for Jazz and is being used in city only in pakistan . elsewhere, its L13A3 engine which is 1339cc. The end result is better fuel consumption (which is a priority these days) but the engine just dies when you are below 20kmph with AC on , second gear and you have to go over a mild slope or take a U turn etc. Such power losses are not there in even 1000cc cars. so there has to be something else as well... may be its a problem with gear ratios etc.

Corolla's 1.3L 16V DOHC produces 85hp
City's 1.2L 8V SOHC produces 78hp that's 65hp per litre. If we put 1.3L, instead, that will produce 85hp that's pretty much the same.

recently i have been driving an idsi manual transmissino and partially maintaining it too...

the engine is a good one... its 1246 cc and performs decently..its best suited for city use... and the mileage in city with full ac is experienced to be up to 14km per liter mark. power is okay... as the topic is just for the engine...

so i would say the engine is excelent..

as far as its application in honda city is concerned... i would say that this much power is just satisfactory for a car of this size... although it would keep all the uncles and aunty;s more than satisfied... and a chauffer driven office environment is best suited for this car... for petrol heads and performance geeks.. the 1.5 idsi engine would hav been a best choice ... unfortunately not available in pakistan

So all agree that because of the 1.25 litre engine the car is underpowered ....................... so what good is all this superior technology is at the end all u get is an underpowered car.............
@minex........... people do have the 1.5 vtec with steermatic here............. but it's quite expensive.......

yaar i have listened from many peoples that corolla is not a balanced car .my uncle got an xli but he say that i was on 155 km/h and the car just like swinging in air very bad road grip as the car was zero meter.that thing was horrible now he has an civic . we have two city's and we are satisfied with them and we have touched 165 km\h on cng easily
and here at pak wheels i have read that city can do 190. and i am also confirmed that it could do that as on 165 km\h on cng acceletor was left behind.any why i think city is good car as compare to Xli in features , fuel economy and in raod grip but corolla is also good car but not Xli only the upper models

Yeah that would be giving us an insight of actually how much advantage one can get by getting a 1.5 Vtec Intead of 1 1.25 Idsi............ As i have no experience with the 1.5, I can't say anything on it but yeah liked the idea of gears changing electronically by the button on the steering wheel......

My city has done 130,000 Kms and it drives the same as on its first day, which shows Engine is very reliable and durable. Only just replaced the clutch plates and Disk brakes.
Half of the above Kilometers are done on CNG and I must say it performs well on CNG.

I think the CVT version may feel underpowered due to the gear ratios more inclined towards better fuel economy (but this can be adjusted by changing the gear lever to D1, D2 etc). But there is no problem with manual Idsi model.

CIy 1.3 I-Dsi was made with economy in mind, not for racing, so it does its job well, average mileage figures for manual are 12-14 Km/L with ac use in city, which is pretty decent. If you want racing stuff, but city steermatic (1.5 V-TEC). Previously City was coming with very good quality comparitivley, but now, to cater for reduced price, Pak Honda has drastically reduced quality. TO prove my point, drive City model 2002-2003 and then the newer one 2006 and see the difference in handling and parts quality

well Xli is a better choice then a city ,,,,
Xli has cheap spares, nice shape, resale, national acceptance (lol) , high beam is good, boot has enuff space to put 2 bags and a cng cylinder etc etc,

over steer in city after cng is so great that u will loose the driving pleasure.

Kool, i guess its upto ones own personal preference what he/she likes. but i chose a city (05) over an XLI.

As far as cheap spares are concerned, honda too has cheap spares now( prices were mentioned in a thread here on PW)

boot space...i think citys boot is much bigger than XLI's.

I felt that the city gave better value for money at the time of my purchase. was approx 60K or so cheaper, and came fully loaded. Found the build quality to be better too at that time.
last but not least, city has a very fuel efficient engine, hence drastically reducing or eliminating the need for CNG.
