Civic 1997 AC Replacement Help and VTEC Identification

Hello Fam,

My car's AC isn't working, and I need some advice on which condenser and compressor to install for the best results. I'm considering a microfin condenser, but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Additionally, my car is a 1997 Civic with a 1.6 engine that's been converted to automatic. I suspect the VTEC isn't activating properly because the pick-up feels sluggish. How can I identify whether my engine has a dual VTEC or a single VTEC system?

Edit: I found that the engine installed is d16y4.

Its a single vtec, sluggish acceleration could be a tonne of things. Vtec only kicks in around 3k, so being sluggish has nothing to do with that

Install its original ac system like the factory did, it works best.

For sluggishness, there are a lot of things to look at, specially if you dont know what ecu is driving the engine, there are a lot of bastardised swaps in Pakistan which have the wrong ecu driving the wrong engine.

Then there is mechanical tune like cam and crank timing and valve clearances.

I have it tuned it has an obd1 port and only shows Vtec error on the scanner nothing else.
The car is smooth af and I had taken it to 200kph for a brief moment and it goes there and didn't budge but the sluggishness is there when you're trying to make it pick up some speed once it does it can go fast.

So no microfin condenser I will try to find new ac parts for it, thank you for the suggestion, can you please guide me how to check the ecu and what ecu to get for this d16y4 engine?

That can only be ascertained giving that the wiring is right. You say that once it gets going, it goes, vtec only starts working once it gets going, past 3000 rpm.
Under that, vtec has no function.
Since this is a converted auto, are you sure that the transmission goes into first gear

The factory condenser is micro channel type. The compressor is heavy duty scroll type

Its ac setup works great as it is.

I got it checked turned out the sluggishness in gear change and pick-up was due to bad transmission oil don't know how it work but it worked.

Main pipe was blown out for AC couldn't find it but will outsource it and get it replaced, the main cause for the brust was weak condenser and the guy who owned the car had installed something called a "cupy" to regulate the rpm to support the ac, will that be able to help and run the ac on computer?

Changing gear at the correct time makes a world of a difference. Secondly, a coupy is a manual ivac, something that efi cars don't need

Your cars ecu has an input for ac request, when its wired like it should the rpm should raise once the ac is called. The compressor is then controlled by the ecu too, e.g. if you punch the throttle fully the ecu will shut down the ac for a moment so the engine can apply maximum power. It also allows engine start with ac button pushed as the compressor will only run once the rpm is stable above 800

Why did your guy add whatever the vacuum cupy is.

You need to visit a proper technical fellow who can fix your wiring, this ivac is supposed to be a built in function in your ecu

Im sure his engine is running dead cold without a thermostat which means the iacv is wide open already and ustaad has lowered the rpm with the “L key wali chaabi” and messed it up.

I used to see a lot of cases like this.

it was there before I purchased this car, all of this is coming as a news, a friend and his mechanic checked the car for me said it was a good pass car and I am stuck with this one, I will post pictures in the morning sorry about the late reply.
